Where was it? They are hard to find and but we have a thriving population on hounslow heath nature reserve. Some one was in hospital a few years ago after being bitten, must have bothered it, they dont hang about in human company usually.

Is that a Smooth Snake? I think I saw one today - not the best picture but (s)he was slithering away at speed.

Looks like a Natrix helvetica in the pond. As long as it leaves the newts alone.

Grass snake (yellow collar) swimming in Lee Valley marina today - never seen one before.
Was about 40cms and trying to avoid being eaten by a Coot. Funny and heartening to see wildlife I’ve never seen before in NE London. -
