King/Grand Seiko quartz from the late ‘70s are amazing value and were produced in good numbers so if you’re patient you can find pieces still in fantastic condition for >£300. Most of the eBay sellers are just hoovering up stuff from yahoo.jp and doubling their money, if you can be arsed to fish the Japanese sites (you have to use a vpn now because of a recent change in legislation) the Seiko world is your oyster.
I was lucky enough to get a VFA a couple of years ago when they were under the radar and there’s no way I’d sell or be able to afford one now but on the rare occasions like today it gets an outing to town, it still gives me a buzz. I’ll take a pic when I’m not surrounded by train wankers.
I love the tall indices on this King Quartz. Never seen them before. Are there other references with this feature? This one is a 4823-8120 from 1977. Apparently it's 36mm wide exc. crown https://vintageseiko.nl/store/product/seiko-king-quartz-4823-8120-sold-1 Imagine it was 40mm...it would be madly collectible.
