Sorry to hear this, hope you both heal quickly.
Your story reminded me of some of the stress I've been getting while walking a big dog who I know reacts to dogs approaching him.
Some owners are so irresponsible, it's really frustrating. Then I have the other side of it with my tiny dog who is vulnerable to just about anything.
Was out walking my Whippet and the family Fox Terrier with my partner at lunch, both on leads, we bumped into 2 smallish terrier dogs and the owner asked if she should put one of them on their lead... I don't know, should you?
Anyway, it launches itself at the fox terrier and grabs it by the throat and starts tugging VERY hard, chaos ensues and ends up with me having to choke it out for it to let go. Surprisingly managed to keep a level head and helped the other owner calm the dog down. The owners friend puts the dog on a spare lead and walks it off up the hill... she then starts screaming that its slipped its collar, I turn around to see it homing in on my partner who is currently carrying both of our dogs away, thankfully I was able to launch myself at it and pin it down.
Lucky I was there (have a few cuts), lucky FT is ok with a small puncture wound and I count myself very lucky that it wasn't my Whippet as that would have ended so much worse.
We are making really good progress with our Whippet off the lead in fields etc but this experience just makes me want to keep him on his lead forever. It went from 0 to 100 way too quick.
