  • Today's opening stage of the Four Days of Dunkirk is one for @snoops and his sprinting lanes.

  • They are the UCI’s sprinting lanes, as detailed in the ruleset. Unfortunately I can’t take ownership.

    Sprints
2.3.036 Riders shall be strictly forbidden to deviate from the lane they selected when launching into the sprint and, in so doing, endangering others.

What I’ve argued for, following pundits, is a representation of the UCI’s lanes on the road itself to guide the riders.

Welsford should be fined and relegated as he deviated from his lane with his left elbow raised to obstruct, which endangered and caused a crash. Pretty obvious, but as usual, no idea what the UCI will do!

I don’t think this one is just about deviation, I think there is also a question on Welsford’s conduct in the way he caused the crash with a raised elbow. That was more than self preservation. I’m not so familiar with the conduct rules, but I’ll try to read-up ahead of the grand tours.

The bunch was crazy horny from 3k to go. Lucky to have just the one pile-up.
