Wheres everyone buying there 35mm film the now? There seems to be no Portra 400 around that isn't nearly £90 a box. 4 years ago I was buying a box for £42....
I was gonna try gold but even its all single rolls so Im not sure you can buy a box of that either.
Might have to just start shooting everything on my 120 as I seem to not be able to get rid of that shit.

What do you have on 120, might be interested.

It’s bad at the mo. Prices are high but more importantly everything seems to be back ordered. I suppose that means demand is high which should be a good thing in the long run.
I have only ever shot black and white until last year, when I suddenly caught the colour bug… bad timing.
Anyway, currently buying Kodak Vision3 250d/500t. As soon as I can decide which I prefer I plan to start buying in bulk. You need to develop yourself though (or a lab that is happy to handle it), cos remjet.
And yeah, no such problems in 120 land… you can even still get pro 400h for reasonable prices.

I’ve got loads of pro 400 and a few boxes of portra.
-
• #22856
Yeah the remjet is why I didn’t do that, don’t develop myself.
It’s terrible the now at how bad it’s got tbh, and can’t believe how expensive portra has got!
Apparently the demand isn’t gonna bring the price down and it’s where we are at now.
Found Kodak gold 200 on eBay 3 pack for £37. Which I think is a bump but heyho

Yeah, Portra is now off my radar for everyday shooting. Gold and ultramax are my future. And superia if I can get any (prices reasonable, just backordered…). Maybe lomo?
It’s funny when people talk about prices coming down (food, fuel, film…) as that doesn’t really seem to be how it works.

I mean for how much I shoot now, I might still buy it. I defo won’t shoot as much as I use too.
About 4 years ago I shot a project all on portra, was about £700 for film but fuck doing that now

i found my film stash the other day, a right mixed bag of mostly black and white and transparency 120, 5x4 and 10x8 plus some quickload fuji velvia and a 5x4 holder.
didn’t look at the dates but must be 10 years plus out of date minimum, does this stuff have any value? -
• #22860
It does, I shoot a lot of expired film for multiple reasons, including price, being able to use stock that is not longer available and also a creative process.
Worth sharing here what you have, I'm always looking for film, if not eBay is your best bet.

Lovely. My fave is the goal and tree. So good

• #22868
Thanks. The tree has a bit of a Miyazaki animal spirit vibe

Yeah definitely. Would have that on my wall. How much for a print ??

Not something I've given any thought to, but flattered you like it that much. Would depend on size and printing method if you're serious.

..found a roll of C200 expired in 2003 at work today, feel like I've won the lottery 😅

I found so much old crap. Looks like I bought myself a stash of Readyloads, forgot about them and gave up large format.

Always loved the little CLE - Have fun with that!

Would love a standard 4 x 6 or even a 5 x 7.
Printing method I'm not really up on the different ways but open to advice.

Great haul!
True. There is always a more guesswork involved than with most cameras. You get better at it.
Ricoh R1, or Nikon AF600 are good wideangles. Very pocketable. The same snapshot vibe as the Vivitar but auto exposure and good lenses. Fuji Zoomdate 2.8 Silvi is another pocket, wide compact with 24-50mm (I think) zoom. It’s relatively modern, though I didn’t love the daytime results from that so much, with the flash it’s alright.
The flashs for the XA series are too slow, quite big, not light and ugly 😂 . I didn’t get good results with an XA2, particularly indoors when the shutter speed dips and your left guessing shutter speed (with no control) and scale focus. It’s fine for street photography with no flash … but you can’t set iso above 800. It is fast very fast to use. I’d love to try the (28mm lens) XA4 but they’re rare. All the XAs break quite a lot - something to do with the shutter release design.
The L35af or Mju2 do similar (to an XA2) but better. Both have less sought after variations: the Mju1 and L35AF2. These are still considered ok I think, though I can’t vouch for them … (I do own a L35AF2, but have not used it much, and I have zero experience of shooting the Mju1).
