the main issue with the OG 5k tyre was the super stiff casing making them horrible to mount and harsh/stiff feeling to ride. The new ones feel super soft, grippy, plush and very fast to ride
Thanks, that sounds good. I had some mounting struggles with the originals and ruled them out. I've just ordered some of the new ones to see if I can get them on easily enough to use.
I know there’s been a bit of interest in the new GP5KS TR tubeless tyres. So here’s a mini review.
Stock is still non existent of these unicorn tyres, but I spotted some in Germany which I bagged at medium/great expense. My summer bike has worn out a pair of the original GP5K tyres so I can offer a direct comparison.
Fitted the 25mm tyres to a pair of LB AR 45 wheels with 21mm internal width. DREAMY tubeless setup. They were tight but I got them on with thumbs alone, massive contrast to the OG GP5K tyres that required 2 people and much swearing. The tyres blew up first time with a normal track pump. Despite being Tubeless Ready, they held pressure without sealant. Once they were seated in the rims I used a syringe to put 40g of caffelatex sealant in. On 21mm internal rims they blow up to just over 25mm. No problems whatsoever.
Ride quality is MUCH improved from OG. IMO the main issue with the OG 5k tyre was the super stiff casing making them horrible to mount and harsh/stiff feeling to ride. The new ones feel super soft, grippy, plush and very fast to ride. They’re fantastic, let’s hope stock level improves so the price comes down.
