  • there were a lot of fakes and they went bankrupt but I don't think so.

Double check the spoke holes carefully and the brake wear. obviously also remove the tyres incase there's crash damage

  • who did I see on a pink mini cargo bike that looked way nicer than omnium's, with silver guards being ridden at pace down denmark hill the otehr day? it looked rad. must be someone on here. what have you got and where did you get it?

  • seized spokes/nipples is common with Mavic wheels but if they're real that's a £3k set of wheels so doubt they'd be chucked just for that. Maybe some de-lamination on the brake track? Maybe the previous owner tried to stop in the rain and nearly died.

  • Does anyone know where I can more of these 70's era PVC fencing rails please?

  • This is a boring answer, but assos caps last for ever. Assos completely fails to bump up their sales by making things which fall apart after a reasonable number of years. I'm amazed they're still in business.

For summer, you might want a cotton one, which will cool your head when it's sweat-soaked.

  • I've got a couple of Albion ones that I really rate. The peak is a bit fragile but the fit is great for my large-ish swede.

  • is there a single thread for asking where to ride (road bikes) in the high mountains? Dolomites, Pyranees, Alps ?

  • I'm making a EU261 claim for a delayed flight. Does this have to go back into the same account as booked the flight?

  • Only one side of my headphones currently works. Is there anything I can look at to get the other one working? They're not particularly good or valuable so not worth spending money on a proper repair but a shame to chuck them out if I can avoid it.

  • Assuming they are wired headphones the first thing to fail is often the cable where it meets the plug. You can get a replacement plug fairly easily but unless they are fancy headphones the cable is very thin and hard to hand solder.

  • Wired? The solder connections at the plug are prone to breaking, due to flexing. You could try fitting a new plug.

  • If you boil sparkling water will it still be sparkling?

  • No, the solubility of CO2 in water fall as temperature rises, and the act of boiling provides many nucleation sites for the gases to come out of solution.

  • Sparkling water (and other carbonated beverage) is typically shipped under pressure, around 2 bar at 5°C. Reducing the partial pressure of CO2 above the liquid by opening the container (both reduces pressure and exposes the interface to the low concentration of CO2 in atmospheric air) is what makes it sparkle, as the the solution is now well above its equilibrium concentration. Gas moves from solution to the atmosphere in the form of bubbles. If you boil the water and it reaches the equilibrium concentration at 100°C, it will become progressively further and further below equilibrium concentration as it then cools, so it will tend to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.

  • Damn. So my idea for fizzy coffee isn't gonna fly.

  • my idea for fizzy coffee isn't gonna fly

You could make a fizzy iced latte by putting the cold drink in a SodaStream 🙂

  • Cold brew coffee with sparkling water is a thing. I had one this morning. Not entirely convinced by it but it was interesting.

  • Anyone know what generation Shimano MTB rear mechs stopped working with road pull?

Got some bar end shifters and want to stick a 40t on the back, and my Sora rear mech struggles with the capacity.

Is it old XTR rear mech I'm after?

  • Is there a lfgss borrowing thread? Where you can post something you want to borrow and ask if anyone has one? Just asking because I would like to borrow a fold out / trestle table next weekend for a kids birthday, and not sure where is best to ask. Feels like a borrowing / loaning thread would be useful!

  • If I eat or drink immediately at the top of a climb my heart rate surges/I have problems breathing/slight panic attack.. is this a thing?

  • 9s MTB/10s road and earlier work together. Not sure if 9s Sora is the same pull as old 9s stuff, e.g. they fucked around with the modern 10s Tiagra to make it incompatible with old 10s stuff

  • is this a thing?

Obviously a thing for you, seems like a reasonable thing for anybody who has gone at or above threshold. If I had to guess, I'd suspect vagus nerve bandwidth/crosstalk issues, since that has effects on both digestive peristalsis and heart rate. Give yourself a few minutes recovery after a substantial effort before trying to consume anything.

  • I'm trying to replace broken rivets from a chair but the size seems a bit odd.
I measured something between 5 and 5.4 mm (depending on how much I squeeze) but 4.8 mm seems to be the most common. Did Hay really use a somewhat proprietary size or is my Venier just broken?
