I don't blame you tbh. Have you ever been on target duty at a rifle range before? You're well out of harm's way behind a berm and with other protections but the rounds are passing only a few feet away from you. Can see how it's easy to assume a near miss would be a big deal. The sound is hard to describe but it sounds dangerous!
