Reminds me of Orange Julius. Once found in essentially every single mall in the US in the late 70s and 80s. Quite tasty as I remember.

I haven't seen once since then but apparently they are still going.

The Dutch do a similar drink, orange juice and carnemilk. The latter is a kind of sour buttermilk, I think.

Katsu curry is hardly a sacred dish whose purity needs defending. It's stodge-and-crunch-bits comfort food with a "It must be good because it's Japanese" disguise.

No dishes are sacred, to be fair.

The Japanese learned about curry from the British navy. They've added their own refinements but it started from "this should have raisins in it, yes that colour is entirely normal".

Nothing should have raisins in it.

Even pain au raisin is on thin ice.

The Bakers of Hong Kong totally agree with you from my reaserch of a raisin bread is anything to go by.

Any savoury dishes with fruit in are extremely suspect. I might grudgingly allow tagine a pass, but that's about it. Salads with fruit in can GTFO, no exceptions.

I think Korean curries have gone all the way from India > Britain > Japan > Korea with various changes and +/- spice levels and then the Japanese and Korean have come back over here as if they're fancy. All of them are great and I'd smash that sausage and potato thing with added onions and covered in sriracha and seseme seeds all day.

Mango curry sauces and/or curries are banging.
