Inherited a mahoosive plastic pot (probably 1.5m cubed) that I intend to fill with soil for a bamboo thicket tomorrow (side drain holes obviously).
This is a new plot that I’ve taken over as outreach for a medical centre. My name on it, but benefit for the 10% of patients who take up 80% of surgery time, mostly because they are lonely and can get some interaction doing a bit of gardening.
Pond is a great idea! Soil to fill the pot will come from a hole to be a pond. Like it.

Lots of bricks on our plot. I’ll see how that looks

Little Robin sat on my bike wheel at the allotment the other day. Also hopped onto the dt shifter which looked amazing but I missed that. Might take the nice camera down there one lunchtime.

Went to our plot earlier. I seem to have all these plans prior to getting there, I walk through the gate then they disappear and I end up doing something else. Planted some fennel. Watered everything. The asparagus bed is going to be quite productive this year.

Brilliant!

Standard, I really struggle to focus on the priorities, but then maybe what I focus on was really the priority afterall?

Only about 1.5-2 feet deep but it’ll do. Need to acquire some stone to edge it.

First potato shoots appearing from the pot-potatoes this week, just less than two weeks after I planted them.

My potatoes have done fa since planting.
Today I did manage to start the annual process of cutting up bike boxes, putting them on the walk ways and covering with wood chip. It looks so much neater afterwards.

Just got the potatoes in today!
Not so first earlies.
Most of what you see there was under the patio last summer so time will tell what it's like. Plenty of homemade compost in there though. Another 3/4 bag of rubble and stones. Is there anyone in London that has good soil?!?

I got some bike boxes today and managed to cover all the walk ways and then go over with loads of wood chip. So please that’s done for another year, I’m exhausted

It’s like June today… first ridge on all potatoes; shallots, garlic and onions doing ok; robins fed…

Anyone grown romaine lettuce before?
-
• #2695
yeah, did some last year – no special effort or anything and pretty good results. Went in a v average bed shared with main crop potatoes and parsnips

Thanks! I might give that a try this year.

If you haven’t get some asparagus crowns in. We’ve had a nice supply for a few days now and it’s lovely stuff.

It's the second year for our one asparagus, it has one tall shoot which we're going to leave for another year. Does it just take them ages to get going?

Two years until first harvest I thought?

Yeah wasn't expecting to harvest this year, just that it seems a bit feeble. The 'don't harvest in first year' rhubarb tried to take over the garden!
Plot neighbour has nicely arranged cobbles. Seen it done with red-brick too.
