I'm parts collecting in readiness for my Brother Kepler frame in July. This is to replace my Surly Cross Check as my do it all bike, so that's all year round commuter, weekly Lidl-shop-stuffed-into-panniers steed, and weekend bikepacking bike, all these miles being 98% on paved.
Is a 1x groupset a silly for idea for this sort of application? 40t or 42t and 11-42T cassette.
Bear in mind, this Kepler would be my first build without downtube shifters and a front mech...
I think the only thing you might struggle with and want 2x is the bike packing and going up hills loaded, if you're already OK with standing up and smashing up hills then you'll be fine, if you're like me and crawl up them in a spinny gear then you might want to go 2x.
