"You know deep down, Snow White was probably pro-life"
-
• #13355
The real story of Snow White was that she was a mentally disturbed woman living in the woods, driven to live in a manic fantasy with the ghosts of the 7 foetuses she had aborted.

There was one of those rags, in the waiting room, in the Croydon Early Pregnancy unit when ms_com and I were in during a miscarriage on our first pregnancy. The cover had a massive headline that said something like "I took my dead baby to work in a suitcase" or similar. Baring in mind this place is mostly visited by expecting mothers with some issue or other in early pregnancy. You don't go there if everything is fine. I have an urge to burn any such literature since. Or should I say, a stronger urge.
Another one ran an article on a conman who stole my mum's wedding and engagement ring when my parents were separated (my mum's story wasn't in it, turns out he was a prolific bellend).

For me those magazines are the magazine equivalent of toxic, acidic and radioactive trash. Not to be handled or sold.
Worst of humanity on display.
Though perhaps they serve a role to make people not having a great time feel better as "my life / myself aren't as bad as that"?

I’m sorry chap.
When our first pregnancy ended in miscarriage I tried to cheer my wife up with an anodyne movie - picked Ice Age which had just come out on DVD. I had no idea, but of course it is all about a baby in danger……. Felt a total heel.

Horrendous magazine.
I know somebody who has read it since it was first launched (sometime in the early to mid 00s). She now lives in the USA and gets her Mum to post her back issues.
She's a Professor in a very niche and specialist field of genetics at one of more prestigious US universities. I have no idea what she gets from it.

Surely these magazines are based on even-more scandalous US ones she could easily get there?

I'd have thought that if you've been reading the same trashy magazine for 15+ years to the point that you miss it when you move abroad, then you'd want to continue to read the one you've enjoyed for 15+ years rather than switch to a different one.

As someone who cannot stand orange juice, I am not OK with this.

Argh. At some point in the 80s my parents had read that too much milk was bad for us, so we had to replace milk on cereal with fruit juice. Which was presumably much worse for us. I can still recall the combos of apple juice and Rice Krispies, pineapple juice and Alpen. These things do not play well together.

Fruit juices are all a disgrace. Just eat a fucking orange.

Today’s stories are bought to you by the colour orange.
1: My ex was a Health Visitor and one infant she was asked to see was a rival for David Dickinson in the skin shade department. At an age when breast milk was recommended this child was being fed entirely on orange juice.
2: My sister as a child had a favourite drink that was a 50:50 mix of orange squash and milk.
