  • Design 911 never include VAT until you try to pay- very annoying. They are also, in my experience, more expensive than going direct to Porsche with your 10% Porsche UK club discount.

Ha! that is annoying. Thanks for the tip - I'll try Porsche.

Also - last one. I'm assuming you don't bother with N rated tyres on yours ?

  • Insurance fail?

  • 11yr old doesn’t need a seat any more, but it’d be tight between a child seat and baby seat. He’ll usually just go in the front seat when all 3 kids are in, but with the c-max’s pop up seats in the back, it gives extra options if there’s 2 adults in the car.

As I say, no idea what she’ll actually want, but if she test drives a cmax and wants something bigger, we can look at tourans etc. but I think that having something too big for a run around would be a PITA.
    Who knows.

  • Fair enough.

We went with the Touran as they are actually quite short and compact, rarely use the very back seats, but handy to have once in a while. It’s definitely shorter than an estate, and surprisingly okay to drive too.

  • Yeah, I was surprised to learn mine is shorter than my focus estate, which isn't a big estate to begin with. It's essentially a chubby Golf.

  • A chubby golf is an excellent description, which is probably why they didn’t sell many golf plus I guess, no real benefit for it.
Mine is a Japanese import, managed to get an immaculate one with less than 20k miles for £6k last year, which seems an absolute steal now.

  • Thanks for dropping the knowledge on these; always had a soft spot for them as the ugly duckling of the Group B cars.

  • Interesting. I read the fairly dismal reviews of the golf SV and just thought the Touran was significantly bigger to the point it wasn’t suitable. Will have a read up and throw it in as a contender.

  • I looked up the lengths just for interest, the golf is 4.258m, the touran is 4.527m, so about a foot difference.

  • My mate has just bought a Touran as he and his wife have had twins after having 1 child already and I was impressed by it. Drives like a car, feels spacious inside, lots of child friendly/storage features, doesn't look terrible. I'd rather get a big estate/hatch like my Superb but if you absolutely must have 3 rows of seats then I think the Touran is a good shout.

Another friend who had an unexpected 3rd child during lockdown went for a brand new C4 grand Picasso and he reckons it is a step above the Touran in terms of functionality and features, and this is coming from a guy who changes cars twice a year sometimes so has experienced a lot of different cars.

I also have a mate with the exact same story. I haven't seen much of the car yet though.

  • It’s less about 3 rows of seats, although pop up seats in the boot deffo seems handy in the cmax, and more about big doors and slightly higher seats to make getting baby and young child into car seats easier.

  • I think the C Max is famed for that ease of use so it's a good shout if you're not bothered about it being exciting at all.

  • It’s for my sister, not me, so practically over everything else, lol.

  • Kids and cars not a good mix, when ours were growing up we bought cheap Citroen (C8, grand Picasso) and let them fester full of McDonald's chips, vomit, sand...... And the rest.... then got rid when they got older

  • then got rid when they got older

    The kids or the cars?

  • Would have been cheaper to part ex the kids :)

  • Ah, so you carried Mrs B in it, she is uniquely gifted at turning cars into sheds....

  • Have often wondered if air con leaks are down to O rings joints failing, damage to the metal pipes, rubber pipes. Or the metal, rubber pipes Have known people repair pipes but that is off the car so costs for some one to do the work may match replacement.

  • People that have a car as a thing rearely care...or me. My cars are amazingly clean and in order when they are about to be sold.

  • Sweet 99 dude.

Really enjoyed a few days back in London and catching some useable classics dotted here and there.

A rusty old skoda on roman road was the pick of them

  • Why do car people on social media like to argue against facts.

Point in question: Fiat gearboxes in the X1/9, 127 and 128 are non hypoid gearboxes, so don't run gear oil but motor oil and in these 'boxes it is SAE90 oil. Running EP oils will damage the 'box. That is fact as the difference in the EP oils additives work. But hey what would Fiat know stating don't use EP oil, and me repeating that.

Now why the flying fuck do I care so much and get annoyed when people disagree with me? I produced proof from Fiat manuals...
