  • Undoubtedly it can. I know the lad who has the record. Just not by me!

  • Cheers @atk @jontea and @Tallboy. Would be nice to get a forum group out at some point.

    Perhaps even TNRC ala North.

  • Yeh keen. We could do a loop south of Manchester picking up people as we go, and hit some of the peaks.
Does anyone ever have Friday off? I ride a lot on Fridays when I’m kid free

  • I'm trying to get Fridays off, keep asking to go on a 4 day week, my boss doesn't seem keen, I'll wear him down eventually.

  • Yeh do it! Fridays off rule

  • Usually off Wednesday. Can often switch to a Friday if there's something going on. All my bikes are a bit broken at the moment though. Maybe I can fix that if it's raining this weekend.

  • May have to wait and see how much my gas n leccy is gonna cost me before I give up a fifth of my income!
But I would love to have Fridays off, money poor/ time rich is the way forward.

  • That's because you ride them in gale force winds!

  • Any Marple cafe recommendations (calling @Tallboy ...) that would be open early Sunday morning?

  • Has anyone ridden The White Peak Loop yet? Reading online it seems it's not 100% complete but is do-able with some road sections and diversions. I'm thinking it could make a possible beginner bikepacking route. I presume the Monsal/High Peak/Tissington trails would be ok on a touring bike?

  • I presume the Monsal/High Peak/Tissington trails would be ok on a touring bike?

    Yes.

  • Sorry @atk only the locks in Marple centre or Costa I think but not super early. Probably better riding on a bit and stopping somewhere later

  • No worries! If I remember right, it was so wet that day. Made it as far as Stockport then gave up on it all.

  • Message me next time and I’ll make you a brew and lend you an umbrella

  • Wrong thread. Sorry.

  • Has anyone ridden The White Peak Loop yet?

Most, but not in one go. I saw the signs appear in Buxton and looked it up from there... the new bit from Buxton up to the Tissington Trail is really nice to avoid roads with quarry traffic so I use that a lot now, and it would also be fine on touring bike. I've not done the new bit from Matlock to Rowsley. The bridleway link Rowsley-Bakewell I've only done on my MTB, it is a bit rougher than the railway trails but I think still ok on a touring bike.

  • I've not done the new bit from Matlock to Rowsley

Also fine and a nice diversion from the A6.

I’d be hesitant to take a loaded touring bike down the bridleway (Coumbs Road) from Rowsley to where it joins the Monsal Trail at Bakewell. Admittedly it was January when I last rode it but it was very wet and rocky.

  • Thanks for all the advice, my friend and I also have one MTB and a flat bar cross bike available if they'd be more suitable. We'd have bikepacking gear but would hopefully be keeping it fairly lightweight.

  • Bastard windy today, seemed like you could find a headwind no matter which direction you were going.

  • Same yesterday, finally got a tail wind for the last 5 of a 50 mile ride. Nice to be out n about though.

  • I would like a 60-80 mile on road or 40-50 mile off road route in the Peak District for a spare day I have up that way.

    Could anyone reccomend something?

  • Starting from where?

  • Route mistakes were made on 32mm GP5000s in road shoes at the weekend.

  • Anywhere really - preferably in the southern part but I'm driving from near Manchester to London and have a spare day so can drive somewhere, park then ride a loop.

  • Might fit the bill? Trim or extend at your leisure. No idea about off road stuff
