re: offshoring asylum - according to the refugee council, 172 people would have been eligible under this proposal. I don't think anyone imagines this is a realistic solution.
As far as I can see, this is the standard populist strategy of proposing absurd/punitive bullshit guaranteed to be shot down in the courts and then blame liberal elite/lefty lawyers for not respecting the will of the people.
At the next election you can then blame these immigrants and woke lefties for the fact that the hardworking backbone of the country can't afford to heat their houses etc.
This strategy has the added bonus that it requires no competence, thinking or action and yet your voting base come away thinking you're a man of action thwarted by the liberal elite
