  • Might be worth using a new fitting kit or just getting a new fcb altogether, check the frame / threads etc before fitting

  • I’ve picked up an old Brompton (T6, I believe)

How easy would it be to change to a lower S or mid-rise bar? I presume I’d need to replace or shorten the cables?

Also, any other worthwhile modifications to consider to modernise it slightly?

  • I’m about 2 weeks in and not many rides so far - C-line black edition, flame lacquer.
No complete surprises... those gears though (it’s a 6 speed).

Things done or in progress so far:

    • new saddle en route as I don’t get on with the Fizik Aliante R7
    • saddle back and up on the Pentaclip. (How do people ride with the saddle forward as supplied??)
    • a proper right hand pedal
    • Ezy wheels
    • Frame / stem clamps - spinny ones that stay in the right place ffs
    • Ergon GP2 grips, trying them out

Things I’d like to be better:

    • Ride quality. But I’m reluctant to do anything that might increase the chance of a roadside p*ncture so the stock tyres are board hard.
    • Those gears - specifically the huge hub gear gaps. OK, part of it is just getting used to them I suppose, and most of the time it seems to be the case that I just leave the hub gear in 2 and use the derailleur to flip up and down. So I probably could have managed with a 2 speed.

  • I’d fit a mid rise bar to start with, fit cables should be fine to stay the same u less you trim the bars.

Brake levers and shifters will modernise this a treat, along with a nicer set of easy wheels, seat clamp / clip and stiffer suspension. Will feel like a different bike! Can provide all if you need!

  • Thanks! It’s already a mid-rise.

I think these come with a firm block as standard. I can’t honestly say that I notice the suspension doing anything at all.
So either it isn’t doing anything at all, or it is, and it would be arse-batteringly bad without it.

Let’s see whether a change of saddle and a bit more acclimatisation do the trick first.

  • 1, it’s not a mid rise
    2, didn’t reply to you! ;)

  • Ah yes. Sorry! I was wondering about the "modernise" bit, but I should have wondered for longer.

  • If anyone fancies buying a bike that needs a lot of work let me know, my hands are a bit full to take it on right now!

  • Got a 50T silver, but it's from a 2012 bike so not with the spider / removable chainring

  • Thanks but yeah needs to be post 2013

  • Morning work

  • What’s a good price for an electric M6L?

My commutes moved to 25km each way and I’m old, possibly needing assistance! Will the Brompton battery do 50km a day?

  • Brompton say it'll do up to 50 miles so you should be fine with 25km.

If you want to test ride one - we have demo bikes in store in North London you can try and also have stock available.

  • Will the Brompton battery do 50km a day?

I'd aim for charging it at both ends. Although I suppose if you charge at the office only you can use their electricity.

  • Selling on my Facebook group 2000 to 2400

  • I keep meaning to say, I presume you have someone to fix that?

  • Aye, same chap then takes it to the painters for me so works out easy!

  • Totally normal for paint to flake off the main hinge flange plate things where they clamp together after less than a week of use ?

  • if on the section where the two physically touch yes, if on an area where metal does not touch metal, no. Have replacement multiple frames for paint pulling off further than the 2 square contacting points.

  • Thanks - will have a look in daylight - hope just the contact points .

  • @sbbohr is there any difference between the new c-line electric and the previous version with the light blue decals from a year ago? Or is it just roughly the same bike aside from cosmetics?

@jellybaby I thought that might be the case with charging. I'm a bit too old to do 50km a day and probably want to have it on full assist.

@Crop Where in north London are you? Do you sell many? And are people generally happy with the electric?

  • No difference; there was a motor update a year ago with better seals but most motors failed at least once so if it’s not been replaced then it will shortly. New mudguard stay for increased tyre clearance and a new battery bag frame clip to reduce disconnections we’re out 8 weeks ago so make sure they have been done.

When the bike works they are fab, frankly the software update system is dogshit, the motors fail too regularly but if you have a electric dealer who isn’t a moron it’s easy enough to just get a warranty replacement of anything with an issue.

Biggest issue is I have witnessed dealers making claims to brompton, weeks later bike still not fixed; brompton issues FOC Spare parts kits for dealers, they just have to order them so as soon as a bike has an issue it’s fixed and then they claim a credit and a new kit from brompton hq

  • Lunar Cycles, Kentish Town West.

We sell a fair few both electric and non electric, have a huge amount of Brompton spares on hand as well as complete bikes and have a constant stream of Bromptons coming in for services and repairs etc.
So far haven't had any complaints from customers that have electric Bromptons, if anything, they all seem super happy with them.

The Instagram should give you a bit of an idea

  • How many motors / controllers you replaced? / how many electrics sold?
