I’d fit a mid rise bar to start with, fit cables should be fine to stay the same u less you trim the bars.
Brake levers and shifters will modernise this a treat, along with a nicer set of easy wheels, seat clamp / clip and stiffer suspension. Will feel like a different bike! Can provide all if you need!

I’ve picked up an old Brompton (T6, I believe)
How easy would it be to change to a lower S or mid-rise bar? I presume I’d need to replace or shorten the cables?
Also, any other worthwhile modifications to consider to modernise it slightly?
