Yes, I cropped it for mobiles.
If you have to ask...

I see. That would explain the glut of BNIB Rotary.
You'd think they'd have better options for selling something like this, than sticking it the window.

A mate of mine works in a nice pawn shop but they pay don't top dollar for anything and they don't want stuff sitting in the window for too long. You could probably go in and get a couple of hundred off the asking price just by asking and if its still there in a fortnight even more.

I dare say, but I don't like Speedmasters and assumed it was heavily marked-up.

I would imagine it will be on the website and go via that.
Not a speedy/Omega/moonwatch fan either.
Chronos in general do nothing for me. -

Does anyone know what happens to seized goods due to proceeds of crime? Just read in the local news a drug dealer has been convicted and amongst the seized assets was a large collection of Rolex, Brietling and Cartier plus other luxury watches around 40 in total. Do they auction these? Locally or nationally? If the auctions are not widely advertised and low key will there be bargains available or just cleaned out by watch dealers? Or will our local bobbies be rocking submariners and navitimers in the near future. Just a selection here

I’ve seen adverts for auctions of the sale of these items locally to me. Search for Wilson’s Auctions at Mallusk.

Search for Operation Bumblee auctions.

Thanks both 👍 Google wasn't throwing anything up and i thought this haul might be big enough to warrant its own auction? I'd be interested to go even if i don't end up buying anything

That bottom right Rolex with the green bezel doesn't look right to me

I'm guessing none of this will be authenticated as genuine in this type of auction but I'm particularly interested in this one as the guy had a shop for a while specialising in pre owned Rolex mainly but had a few Cartier and i even saw a Royal Oak in the window once so some of this lot could even have box and papers. Because he was in the trade I'm assuming this lot will be genuine but i wouldn't bid a lot of money on the strength of that assumption but something might come up that's worth a punt especially with so many to choose from.

It was a fancy wedding (really not my vibe) I’ve been to, quite enjoyed the watch spotting. Bottom line is - vintage Rolex OPs and DJs look so much better than all the APs, PPs and other ridiculous watches. I did see a pretty cool, white face Piaget with a diamond encrusted bezel, that looked good on that particular dude, but yeah… vintage Rolex FTW.

For counterbalance, I proposed and bought my OH an engagement ring when we were travelling. It was a very cheap (but nice looking) placeholder. When we got back they decided there was no point in spending money on another "proper" ring, because a) they already had the actual ring I proposed with, and b) because they wear a wedding ring every day not an engagement ring.
Others might disagree, but I think the whole engagement ring arms race has got a bit ridiculous, and in its current form is another eg of a negative Americanism.
I'd be tempted to get some sort of token ring, but if you didn't give a ring when you proposed I'm not sure it has any meaningful value.
Tl;dr I think a watch sounds like a great idea.

I worked in a jewelers when I was (I think) 18 (which is a long time ago).
Advice we were told to give was to spend (IIRC) twice your monthly salary on the engagement ring, which always struck me as nakedly avaricious - nothing about what style etc, just the raw £ as the judgement.
But, it’s an easy metric - the number of people who came in saying “right, I have to spend twice my salary, so lets look at that one” and seemed relieved that they weren’t expected to make an aesthetic judgement was in the region of 100%.

Have heard this a bunch of times. A lot of people really buy into it, and I've seen women pressure their partners into it as well.
Have to say, [edit: dumb anecdata warning] pretty much everyone I know who gave/received/demanded an engagement ring of that kind of value is now either divorced or the marriage is dysfunctional. Although maybe that's just all/most marriages.

Yeah that's the standard line. Pretty confident that it's carried over from the States, as is the double ring thing. At least there the husband gets it back in the event of a divorce (something in the back of my brain says it's consideration). I can't think of anyone from my parents generation who wore a huge rock next to their wedding ring. It sounds very much like a rule made up by people trying to sell a product in the first place. It's also a very canny sales tactic if you think about all the psychological angles. There's almost nothing better than undermining someone's self confidence, then allowing them to regain it.
TBF tho the two people I know with gigantic stones are still happily married. So maybe I should stfu. Although taking a stab at what they make now, I don't think it would have been anywhere near 2m. Definitely not for one of them, who prudently had a jeweller in HK make a replica of the Carter ring his wife wanted. Although eventually she had the centre stone swapped to a smaller one, because she started to feel self conscious about how massive it was.
My wife has asked about a bedside table clock.
Before you ask, she already has an engagement ring that she never wears, in favour of her wedding band which she appears to enjoy.
Classic Braun in the Rahms shape would look ace, I just hate how plasticky they are. An old classic alarm clock has delightful heft but I’ve yet to find one with typography I’d tolerate. We both laughed at the Seiko sport timer homage one.
Is there a secret alarm clock catalogue for casual browsing? Is there a Paulin type watch group doing alarm clocks?
