  • Just putting this suggestion out there- you could wear a ring too, as that’s the condition she set for her wearing one.

  • I did consider this… briefly. However, I think the right way to interpret her comment is as a rhetorical illustration of why she’s not too keen on the practice of engagement rings given their historical connotations of “ownership”, rather than a request.

    I’ve probably derailed the thread with this enough already but thanks all for the thoughts and suggestions.

  • Ah- just call her “the” wife, sorts that right out.

  • Each to their own. I never bought my wife an engagement ring... But I did get her a nice gold Rolex that gets worn every day. Her point of view was that she's not into diamonds and she's likely to lose anything like a ring. I've witnessed it many a time... randomly taking rings off to use hand lotions etc then forgetting about the ring on the counter top etc. So yeah, do what suits you guys.
