  • Y not both?

  • If your fiancée doesn't want a ring, then I don't know why, based on the opinion of a load of men, you'd get her one.

  • ^ HA!

  • Yeah I mean Jesus what would anyone who was in the exact same situation know about the exact same situation - boggles the mind completely to think they could have anything to add.

Other people can make mistakes - so you don’t have to.

  • Yeah…. This. This whole thing is weird. If she says she doesn’t want a ring, she doesn’t want a ring. Did it occur to any of you that she might not like them and doesn’t actually want to wear one lol?

  • This is actually one of the weirdest plot twists that I can think of in this thread’s history.

  • This!

Buy her a cheaper token ring. Stick it in a safe.

I'm thinking something just above a lucky packet ring or a haribo ring.

Also, do what you want. Also, watches!

  • Hah, really? I suppose 'don't buy a watch!' is pretty controversial for this thread but I don't think anyone is suggesting that...

  • Just putting this suggestion out there- you could wear a ring too, as that’s the condition she set for her wearing one.

  • That’s not what I meant. I mean the unsolicited advice that goes directly against what OP’s fiancé has asked for. He didn’t ask for recommendations on ‘do I really not buy a ring?’

They asked for tips on watch shopping. Then said ‘I’m pretty sure she knows what she wants’. Then you and Freddo insist you know better. Just weird. Especially Freddo’s last comment 🤨

  • If the only thing that's keeping your marriage together is the fact that you bought someone a ring, you're doing marriage incorrectly.

  • No man, I’m not claiming to know better, just saying that whilst on the face of it this looks simple, it’s not necessarily, because there may be unintended consequences that he hasn’t considered.

  • I did consider this… briefly. However, I think the right way to interpret her comment is as a rhetorical illustration of why she’s not too keen on the practice of engagement rings given their historical connotations of “ownership”, rather than a request.

I’ve probably derailed the thread with this enough already but thanks all for the thoughts and suggestions.

  • Wedding part two. Have a good one everyone.

  • Nice. Was at a wedding last night and thought I posted this, but evidently not.

  • Blimey!

Out of interest, how much was it?

  • £4,800

Seems odd someone would sell it there.

  • Ah- just call her “the” wife, sorts that right out.

  • Did you originally post this with the price showing? Have I lost my mind?

  • I thought that too! Ninja crop.

  • Each to their own. I never bought my wife an engagement ring... But I did get her a nice gold Rolex that gets worn every day. Her point of view was that she's not into diamonds and she's likely to lose anything like a ring. I've witnessed it many a time... randomly taking rings off to use hand lotions etc then forgetting about the ring on the counter top etc. So yeah, do what suits you guys.

  • That’s a great pic. Speedy looks good with the bracelet. I might put my bracelet back on after seeing the pic. Hope you had a great day.

  • This probably came from a shop bankruptcy or cease trading sale. Not everything they sell is chopped in.
