Genesis Ti "urban"??

  • So, with the help of many people on here providing part and lending me tools, my first (very mild) foray into bike customisation resulted in this (pics attached hopefully).

I did a ton of searching about how to have a shifter with bullhorns and keep it "neat", and this is the best I could come up with. It's a 1x9, using an old SRAM x9 trigger shifter bodged to the bullhorns. I'd love to get it closer into the centre, but the underside of the stem fouls it. I may start filing away bits of the stem clamp - what could possibly go wrong??!

Slightly wondering what anyone thinks, but mostly to say thanks to the forum for much assistance!

  • Why have you done this? All you appear to have done is lose one hand position.

What is the advantage you have gained?

  • Yeah, fair point. I never, ever use the drops, and I only ever use a few gears, so getting rid of things I don't use. Also, I find this gives me more reassurance braking. Lastly, and most truthfully, I like the way it looks, and I'm a bit bored!

  • Metrea shifters come to mind if you ever want a more integrated solution, where you wouldn't have to give up the brakes when shifting.

edit : nevermind it seems to be hydraulic brakes only.

  • JTEK do this, I guess it'd work?

  • That look much better and you end up with both hands in control off the bike.

  • Having used a similar bodge, with trigger shifter on drop bars, I fail to see the problem.
It's hard any worse than using bar-end or down tube shifters.

I agree it looks good and I appreciate the attention to function that this build displays.
I wouldn't mind a setup like this myself.
