  • Due to stupidity I managed to bend the little pip on the seatstay that you can hang your chain on while the back wheel's off. The braze holding it in cracked and I've managed to pull the whole thing out. The pip is actually a pin that was brazed into a hole in the seatstay and seems long enough to butt up against the outer face of the seatstay (imagine the top 15mm of a broad-headed nail). The frame in question is a vintage (80s) steel frame, although I think the seatstays are nothing particularly special in terms of steel.

Questions: does it need refitting (I can't imagine it's structural, but I'd prefer there not to be a hole) and is there a way of refitting it that's strong and stable, but not brazing/welding?

  • You could try tapping the hole, and then put in a bolt which butts up against the inside of the tube opposite the hole, using thread locker.
