  • Think the seal bit maybe important, I have used a spray from the local paint factor.

  • I have to do my headlights once a year, the UV amounts in NZ are really high and plastic headlights suffer terribly.

You can wet sand them with 1200 / 1500 / 2000 grit and then you'll need to cut them with a polishing compound. You can skip the polishing compound step if you later clear lacquer them to seal them instead

  • Is this good?

    Or bad?

  • I'm going for 'perplexing'. But hey, if they like it, then good on them.

  • This the clothing brand car, it is the V6 too.

  • Was in Switzerland over the weekend. Saw a whole bunch of interesting cars - but this was the most unexpected.

  • vote for good here

  • I think I am going to start looking for an early manual 986.1 Boxster S instead of a 996 given that it appears relatively easy to get a decent one for 10k or less rather than the 20k plus for a 996, which seems hard to justify given I will probably only do 1 or 2k a year in it...

  • Good choice. I prefer the handling of the mid-engined Porsches to the rear-engined ones. As long as you're not bothered by the Clarksonesque rationale of it being a 'poor man's Porsche', which frankly is an argument only fit for Golf Club willy-waving, I think it's a better choice unless you really really need two very small rear seats.

  • They get less reliable in a roughly linear relationship with capacity - you can relentlessly thrash the smallest engine for eons and it'll be fine.

  • Can do you a deal on a box of parts ;)

There are a few boxsters in France RHD with UK plates and have been in france for quite a feww years so are cheap.

For 1-2k would hire be worth it, no storage nor service costs.

  • Noted, cheers. My understanding is that 986.1 don't tend to suffer from bore score, it's more IMS that is a worry, so looking at ones that either have had it replaced or due a new clutch, in which case will get it done and upgraded with clutch.

  • If I run out of options here I might consider it but by the looks of things there are enough available at reasonable prices here already

  • Yeah, that was largely my thoughts too. 4 seats might be useful on the odd occasion I would need to transport both 2 kids, but unlikely to happen - we have made do with one car for long enough

Lots of opinions on the IMSB, my new engine has the final (997) iteration which is much larger than the 9X6 variants - you have to split the case to get it out.

On my existing engine I've got the original bearing with the covers removed - we did it when the clutch was changed. Personally I am in the "if its lubricated then it'll keep working" and that there's loads of oil in that part of the crank case, it just needs to be able to get to the bearing.

  • My sports teacher at school had a yellow boxster. He used to give some of the kids rides in it. Turned out he was a pedophile and went down for a long time.

Anyway. Who needs a big van with sweets when you've a yellow boxster.

  • Your wording could have been better πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  • Hah, I was looking at a speed yellow one... Maybe will reconsider 'p

  • Our sports teacher!
    No no.

    The sports teacher.

  • Tbh I'd get a yellow one, or blue. Or some other wild colour. Anything but a boring colour.

  • Hah, maybe - although I do have a real soft spot for the launch combo of silver and red leather interior

  • Speed yellow or Guards red look good, although silver with the red interior is closest to the concept car that became the Boxster.

  • Hah, snap.

  • Perhaps - β€˜he went to jail’? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  • That is the oxymoron.
