  • i assume(d) there is more going on than just cutting the hole.

  • I'm pretty sure it's just as @glws says.
    They get steerer length from customer's drawings/bike fit, chop it, mill a slot in it Xmm from the end of the steerer, bond in some special reinforcing/headset preloading gizmo, job done.

  • it's pretty smart, i am almost sure an lfgss group order of carbon inserts + columbus forks could be conceivable
