  • Thanks. It is the same place we used to live so we know the score on service charge. It is run by a residents RTM company, so not just a landlord appointing a management company and ripping everyone off. However, the rtm did appoint Mainstay, and they are useless, so we need to get someone else running the place. It used to be a one man band surveyor called Keith Perry running it, but unfortunately he retired.

  • Good you have it all nailed down.

I think the defining moment for me, when I realised leasehold wasn't for me,Was when I was out the front of the block with a screwdriver and pliars, removing the 50th for sale or to let estate agent sign from the fence. They weren't allowed under the lease and the managing agent used to charge 150 quid plus vat to remove them.

I was there with my screwdriver removing the sign, and suddenly thought to myself, what the fucking hell am I doing this for ?

The next week I put the flat up for sale. Communal living isn't for me, but if you get good neighbours, a strong management committee and the managing agents don't rob you, too badly , it can be a nice convenient low hassle solution.

  • We know a lot of the neighbours and the.directors of the rtm, and we also know the porters who are amazing, so it is all good.
