  • Ah so you saved up the deposit yourselves, but over a shorter time period than 6months? Surely then you can show payslips, invoices etc and that's it sorted?

Or am I missing it? I'm probably missing it!

Yes this is the case. Switched to a much better contract, at the same time my wife's maths tutoring picked up considerably and with better rates.

  • I think if your paperwork is in order, you should be fine.

I had to disclaim not being a gardener, on the other thread. Here, I will disclaim that I am not a lawyer or an expert in (anti-) money laundering. :D

  • Depends how they look at it. I know I'm fine, but if they say "no you need 6 months" then I'll have to go to another firm unfortunately, and have wasted monies in the process.

  • My experience of this stuff is it looks serious but they didn't really seem to care very much. We had random bits of money coming from all over the place with little paper trail and nothing was flagged.

  • user @amey pls explain

  • I am so glad it's Amey getting all the Catford shit. I spent half a decade banging the drum before he 'discovered' it and it's like it never happened.

  • Anyone recommend a good Surveyor in SE? The guy we've used in the past has retired and my in-laws want to get a building survey done on a place in Beckenham.

    This is my reward.

  • It almost certainly won't be an inflexible rule - there is scope for discretion. I think rule of thumb is more that if there's no reason for suspicion (on AML) then it's fine. So as you can clearly show that you're earning enough to save the funds that you have, that should suffice.
If your conveyancing firm won't accept that you should be able to find someone else who will.

  • can you run this machine learning platform with query "aldersbrook"

  • thanks my computer is emitting smoke now

  • As an asides what is so great about Catford? A guy I know lives on bankhurst Road in what I can only describe as a fairly grim and overextended semi on a very steep hill. Apart from a big plastic cat i am not sure what exactly the positives are from moving there unless you are actively seeking to get cancer from the poor air quality that seems to result from its proximity to the south circular.

  • what is so great about Catford?

    Answer: Amey.

  • @mods pls ban this user for blasphemy

What draws anyone to any area in London? The particular set of compromises of that area cause you least pain. Objectively nowhere is that great when you balance cost versus amenities versus whatever else.

  • ZFN have been getting a lot of positive feedback (including from myself as a result) recently on the thread.

  • Cheers, will give them a bell.

  • FYI I think it was 2k, plus storage. But that was obviously with an extra unload/load compared to a straight move.

Just had a quote from them. £4600!
    Jokes

  • Just had a quote from F Smith and Sons which was less eye watering than most, and the video quote guy made me feel at least marginally confident by recognising/asking questions about things like hi-fi stuff and bikes.

  • I’ll have a look, thanks.

  • bankhurst Road

Seems like a good location - 5min from 2 different train lines, 10 min from the overground, catford town centre. It's a fairly quiet road so I imagine the air quality's not bad at the house. The steep hill is Blythe Hill which has a nice park with great views at the top, and it's only a few minutes from Ladywell Fields at the bottom of the hill, another great park with a different character (more play and exercise space, small river, cafe etc). You can get around by bike on the back streets and largely avoid main roads. If you think catford is not attractive enough as a town centre you can walk to Ladywell or Brockley (from Bankhurst rd) for fancier shops and restaurants. I'm not really sure what you're expecting but seems like a pretty good location. Maybe it's just a crap house.

  • This talk of Catford makes me nostalgic - whenever there was a dusting of snow we would take the kids round to Blythe Hill Fields for sledging and snowball fights, our eldest went to Irish dancing classes opposite the plumbers merchant in Davenport Road and the old ABC cinema saw us have to extract tearful infants from the Jungle Book film (where the manager insisted on refunding our tickets). Is the gun shop still there near the pizzeria?

  • @cozey 's your machine learning platform has made a blogpost now!

  • a necessary antidote to the vile london apologism that has manifest itt recently
