  • I was interested in the signing for areas that have had accidents. It did make me think a bit more about slow down signs in rural areas.

  • My last was 10 years ago. At the registration but at the beginning, I mentioned to the guy taking it that I thought I might have got caught speeding on the way to the course! And it was the same spot I had been caught before!
    Sweaty wait for a couple of weeks but I avoided it, thankfully.

  • That would have been really depressing!

    I got lucky because I turned up on a motorbike and so did the teacher.

    Both of mine were mobile cameras

  • Mobile camera too, and in a regular spot which I should have known about.
    On a connected subject, the camera site is a great one for speeders as it’s a safe place to exceed the limit. It was/is not an accident black spot etc. On the same road there have been some deaths and serious accidents but the camera van parks on a safe stretch - I find that rather annoying and I actually don’t think it’s a revenue generating job, it’s just they can park the van in a handier place where I was caught than where the accidents occur. (Hope that makes sense)

  • Yes, I guess that I kinda knew already about various road signage being placed only after non-fatal/fatal statistics reach a threshold.

    Generally, if a sign says to slow down, I know for sure if it’s not bone dry then it’s a good idea.

  • Then there is the whole discussion of inappropriate speed from conditions.

    Also if you get caught speeding does that mean you get thrown out of the ADI?

  • Me? Wasn’t really thinking at all. My father had just died and I was late for a meeting with his solicitor.
    Re. Second time - running late for the awareness course - my fault.
    Road conditions on both days were good, daylight, overcast, dry surface, traffic light. The camera sits at the end of a ‘dual carriageway’ which is actually a restricted dual carriageway - to 60mph. I was going at 71. Oddly the course did not mention this type of road - they explained what a dual carriageway was and how to recognise one and that the limit was 70 - this mad section of road is apparently restricted to 60 - and I do not think there are signs to show that (must have a look next time).
    A day of my life wasted!!
    The oldest sinner at the course was 80+ years old, had difficulty walking and she got caught at 44 in a 30 on the NW200 circuit road (just past Black Hill if you know the coast road). She was going to a church choir practice - that was the only amusing thing in the whole day!

  • For me the worst drivers on the road are the ones who just have zero awareness, they're equally likely to do 60 on an empty motorway or 50 through a 30. Just baffling.

  • we're always moaning at our parents for driving like that - they know 55ish is the best for fuel economy so they do that everywhere, on the motorway and down tiny residential streets!

  • Those electric trail bikes look fun. Apparently they're popular with gangs of thieves stealing Bromptons in NE London. Got mentioned in the news thread, really shocking levels of violence involved.

    Was a flippant comment as I have mentioned elsewhere being caught speeding in France four times, twice on the same two roads.

    So, the Sur Ron bikes are notorious for this type of thing. I’ve seen people in Swindon with them on road, on dirt, everywhere and with little care. They are fast, and hooligan machines.

    The 44T link is actually about trials bikes, the EPure, which are very different. They are actually trials bikes, rather than electric motor-cum-bicycle-things.

    I very much doubt a single crim in London would use an Epure when there are so many faster and cheaper options to use for non-legitimate enterprise.

    I have one with Kaneda on his bike to go with the Health pill at some point too.

  • They are rapid and some money. Id rather buy a crosser than one of those as they certainly wont hold there money long term

  • Redlined in 1st earlier, doing 50. The scream is glorious.

    The bike is geared to top out at an indicated 140mph (so maybe 125 IRL speed? I'm sure its about 10% over estimate on speedos)
    Not that I have had it near that, officer.
    (triple figures are so easy to get to, considering the bike weighs 260kg+ even without me near it. Endless torque from the triple, but punchy too 4k + 8k RPM are almost like turbo lag has passed)

  • After years of bombing about London on an A1 licence, I just passed my big bike test and I'm looking for a first big bike/scooter. Anyone got anything at the budget end? I would consider anything really, either a sensible ULEZ compliant motorwar cruiser or for kicks a '90s CBR 600 or similar!
