Geocaching

  • Not sure if it was mentioned on here (and can't search tags).

Yeah, geocaching - the trainspotting of the 21st Century.
    Anyone on here who's involved?

Perhaps anyone who's mixing cycling with geocaching?

  • i found a stash of porn under a hedge in epping forest does that count ?

  • Not if it was your dad's.

  • Isn't "Bicycle Tag of Bike" our answer to geocacheing?

  • i found a stash of porn under a hedge in epping forest does that count ?

I know the owner of that - I'll PM the address so you can return it.

  • hmmm they'll probably not be wanting it back now

  • My parents are proper x_hardcore_x geocachers, and me and the sibs do the odd one when we're out and about, just using the free app and a smartphone.

  • I think it's a good way to get rid off the junk in your house without paying for a skip. If you can't be bothered to list stuff on eBay :-).

But seriously, I can see the appeal of the hole thing. It's like playing pirates' bounty.

    euph?

  • Freudian slip.

  • Love this site. The best part (for me anyway) is getting the kids excited about going out for a walk. Plus its cheap.
I'm always surprised by the amount of people who have been there before us too..

  • Reboot.

    Anyone doing this?
I get the feeling im going to become obsessed this summer, then get over it.

  • I've done all the microcaches around Greenwich park, and there's a particularly devilish one right in the open grass of Primrose Hill

  • This looks fun & sad in equal measure - I'm going to give it a go on the way home.

  • i didn't think people would be into this on here.

i was dubious but my girlfriend got me into it and it's excellent fun.

  • Another geocacher here. I've always been a bit of a map/navigation nerd.

  • We spent a week on a narrowboat earlier this year and, as my mum found out, it's a great way to hoover up some serious caches

I thought this same thing a while ago, have never actually gotten around to trying it though and recently someone told me that in Glasgow people like to poo or put needles in the caches so I think I'm going to just give it a miss.

  • How about a forum geocaching ride one day?

  • I thought we'd have had one by now! I had a crack this summer and found a fair few all over the place. Do you really need to pay for a subscription or whatever to get most of them though?

  • Not really, I was a premium member for one year but let it lapse and never bothered renewing. There are plenty of caches out there that aren't "premium member only", certainly enough to keep me going.
I'm not sure what you get on the official geocaching app but independent ones like c:geo on Android are great to use and have enough features for all but the most anoraky of geocachers.

  • Bump. After thinking it'd be fun to try this for ages, finally had a go as we had a no other plans today but wanted to get out. Been walking about with the Mrs and having a good time!

  • Mega dredge.
Does anyone else still do this?
