  • Plastic holder for the tent pole in my folks old tent is split. Time for some plastic welding.

Some light "stitches" to hold it closed:

Then two trimmed and curved staples at the top and a bit below the split:

Then the ugly part. Reinforcing by "brazing" zip ties over the metal to seal, over and into the crack/where the light stitches were, plus a reinforcing ring around the top.

File off the sharp edges and check the fit:

  • Bodge pron

  • Daaaaaang. I remember wanting to do this very badly a number of years ago, but not being smart enough to engineer how. Well done!

  • anyone have any hints on splitting a rear full coverage fender to clear a brake?

  • Brooks bodge.
I lost a sexbolt on my brooks cambium a while ago so I went hunting in the bit bin and found a suitable alternative.
    Limited edition Dickies C17 anyone?

  • I lost a sexbolt

    Too good to correct

  • I did wonder

  • It’s what they are called, that or a Chicago Binding Screw. I shit you not.

  • Delightful filth.

I've always called them barrel nuts, but henceforth I shall be 110% sexbolt.

  • Wald basket question.

The bits that you attatch to the handlebars are pretty industrial looking. Assuming the struts are what actually take the weight, could I just bodge a crown strut from a spare off a platform rack? Will that be sturdy enough? (137 with mainly light stuff in it)

  • I'd be interested to know the same. I used a Wald 137 basket with the agricultural clamps and wished for something more sleek.

I think it'd be ok for really light stuff, but I would want to test it with a 6-pack of beers. Unless that crown strut was rock solid, assembly would lack stiffness to resist the side-to-side forces while riding. Could get real floppy.

I can still see it working if the distance from crown to basket is small, and the strut itself is stiff. You'll gain stiffness points if the fork has a flat face around the brake bolt hole, as the strut will then be well supported against sideways wiggle.

  • I think what you guys are talking about has been done on this thread by flatik

  • should be ok with light stuff, I guess the stronger options would be to get a pelago rack and mount the wald to that, or get a pelago rasket.

  • Well I'll be a June bug stuck in molasses. I should have remembered that tbf.

  • Cheers - interesting thread. I had a quick offer-up and i feel like for my purposes it would probably be fine. I may end up just getting a small canti mounted rack and zip tie the basket to it, although I won’t be bothering this thread about it if I do. Not nearly bodgey enough!

  • I would be very surprised if I'm the first person to do this but: V-brake noodles to smooth cable routing from Nitto Albatross bars on our tandem. This is particularly useful for basket bikes.

  • That looks neat! Do you reckon the flexible v brake noodles would work too? And not be at risk of bending / crimping if knocked

  • The flexible noodles I got to try and help with Brompton v brake routing are happier sitting straight than curved so they tend to pull a bit if you know what I mean.

  • Ah yes. I’d just worry that a knock will bend those rigid ones, or crimp them as they enter the lever.

  • I’m thinking of adapting this old moon saddle rail light mount into a mount for a rear dynamo light. Anyone tried it before?

  • I gave it a go with an exposure red eye and it worked ok. Helped by the red eye rear mounting being almost the same size as the moon bracket to it slipped on with a little squeeze. Then took some black Sugru to mold it and keep it there and that worked well.

Don’t have any pictures I’m afraid, removed it when I wanted a saddle bag and it’s not mudguard mounted, again with Sugru and has been for 6 years now.

Alternatively, I think Velo Orange or B&M do a saddle mounted Dynamo rack light mount…

  • Yes, it's still going years later.

It was for this but you can't really see it, think I just made everything flat and epoxied it together, drilled the top of the seatpost for internal routing too. Makes it look like the light shines out of the arsehole of the rider, which is nice.
