My time with the pack rat has come to an end. I initially bought it when I had a road bike and it made sense as a functional option. Having now sold my road bike, I need my only bike to be a bit more Road-ish. So the pack rat needs a new home. Having done a lovely ride on it yesterday around the Kent coast (viking trail is great btw) I am sorry to see it go, but hopefully the new bike will be a refinement (crosses fingers).
Perhaps Surly’s shortest ever production frameset (?) it is optimised for front loads but not through low trail geo. I have found it to handle the similarly with and without front loads; very responsive to user input. It is certainly not unrideable without a front load, but it does quieten down the steering somewhat with even a small load/bag. Clears 48mm plus guards (just).
I'm in Tunbridge Wells, but happy to post stuff at buyers cost. Have boxes for almost everything except the bars, I think. Happy to provide more pictures on request but have just put whole bike pics up for now to save space.
All now gone except:
hanger Paul Funky Monkey in Silver (not polished) £40
seatpost Velo Orange Grand Cru Setback - 27.2x300mm with 30mm setback. £20
handlebars Nitto M172SSB road bar. Silver, 40mm width. Free?
frame (56cm), silver hope headset, square taper Bb. I have a set of honjo guards that were fitted over winter which I am happy to include. Probably my best mudguard fitting job yet, but not perfect! Frame is in good condition. A good few scuffs but nothing more. All of surlys stickers present and correct. £450
wheels Pacenti Brevet 650b, Hope RS4 rear, SON 28 front. 32 spokes front and rear. Built by The Woods Cyclery. From memory the spokes are Sapim Lazer, so on the light side and certainly not a full on touring wheel set. Probably around 500km on them if I’m honest. Come taped for tubeless and with silver hope skewers. £425
tyres 650b 48mm Ultradynamico Cava Race (grey) x2 and one Rose Race (also grey). I had the Cavas fitted front and back with guards, but switched to the rose in the summertime on the front. Hilariously low mileage on all three, but they do tend to pick up dirt and have proved quite hard to clean (who’d have thought light grey tires would show the dirt?). Have been run tubeless with no punctures. £30 each.
brakes Paul Neo retro in silver (not polished). Come with pads with lots of life left in them. Clean and unmarked. £100 for the pair.
Nitto M137SSB Gravel bar. Silver, 54mm. Seemed to be the only wide, silver, flared, gravel style drop outside crust. £35
stem VO Tall Stack stem (80mm) £20
d/t shifters Dura Ace Downtube shifters (10 sp, indexed). As has been well documented elsewhere, indexing is a regression. So these are for sale. £60.
rack Nitto M18 - comes with long rack struts (which were cut to mid fork eyelet length on the rat, which are the same as a cross check I think). Does not come with the o clips to mount to a fork without eyelets. Can also come with a nifty problem solvers nut which allows mounting of the light below (or similar). £50 (dibsed by a few and I’ll work my way down the list - now gone)
light SON Edelux front light (black, top mount) £100. Comes with the coaxial adaptor installed which is a huge improved over the spade clip thingys and makes removing the wheel much less faff. Cable never cut, just wound round the fork. Potentially dibsed - now gone.
