Good Friday 200km Prep

  • Hey folks,

Decided to cycle home for Easter, route below.

Any tips in terms of good spots to take a break along the way? 2 bottles, good snacks, couple tools aside...

  • Hope for an Easterly wind

  • If I cycle backwards into a headwind does that make it better?

  • There was an old tnrc to bath that might overlap with sections

  • I thought there was an audax type route that followed the Avon & Kennet but could easily be confused

  • After Winsley hill , don’t go on the Towpath, cut through Monkton Combe school. Head on towards Midford and then hop on the two tunnels path which then joins up with the Bristol/Bath railway path.
It’s quicker and the towpath will be busy with walkers boaters and wobbly cyclists on a narrow path.

  • good shout, was thinking that or stay on the Warminster road to avoid the walkers (and the hill over Monkton!)

  • You just have to walk the bike up a few steps. Warminster Road is evil and yeah Brassknocker Hill is not something I would opt for at that stage of the journey.

  • is it that long footpath just opposite the school on church ln?

EDIT: Just seen the route into the two tunnels, way nicer and kills a good chunk of time. Thanks for that!

  • There was, and a great route it was too. Wouldn't remember the directions for it now even if they came and bit me on the arse though.

  • Thanks all for the tips!

Was a great ride, equally fun and challenging! Would recommend.
