  • Anywhere in Greenwich worth going for casual eats? Will have a toddler in tow so near where market rather than the blackheath end

  • Check out the recently refurbished Richard 1.

    Alternatively, The Guildford.

Unfortunately, Greenwich is not good for food.

  • Anywhere good for a midweek breakfast around Kennington/Vauxhall nowadays? I don't remember anything of note when I lived there...

  • Italo in Bonnington Square, is a really decent if a little pricey deli/cafe in a charming location.

  • Have been to italo and it is lovely, a couple of other options, now that they’ve finished off some of the apartments round by the us embassy there’s this Aussie cafe for breakfast, it’s a bit of a walk though..

Or there’s this place which is just through vauxhall pleasure gardens, I’ve been here once with the fam and the in laws (I’m not a tea fan), I’ve never had their breakfast either, but there are always people eating outside.

  • Unfortunately, Greenwich is not good for food

Other than one of the best chips shops around (Golden Chippy), I'm inclined to agree. Some brilliant takeaways surrounding Greenwich but slim pickings in Greenwich itself.

Oh and there's Bianco43 which is a pizza chain of two which I reckon is a world class pizzeria.

+1 for the Guildford. Well above average food pub.

  • Looks like Italo doesn't do breakfast so early. District looks decent though, cheers.

  • Tea house ok but poncy, doesn’t serve coffee if you’re that way inclined. Always been ok food though.

Kennington Cafe on the one way system- proper greasy spoon always full of builders and sneaky beaky 5-0. For a fry up it’s actually very good.
Madeira on main drag, not that good - cheap breakfast ingredients and it shows.
Cafe bistro a the end of Vauxhall walk - busy but not been blown away by it.
Suffice to say if I go out for breakfast in Vauxhall it’s Kennington cafe as first choice.

  • Any ideas for a family meal on a Sunday in/near Forest Hill? Range is a couple of miles in any direction; would prefer not a standard pub roast but has to be family friendly. My shortlist is pretty short at the moment…

  • A little bit further at 3 miles, but I went to Tila in Deptford just before Xmas and the roast lunch was very good. It's a bit trendy but still proper portions and was definitely family friendly

  • Interesting, hadn’t heard of it - will take a look. Maybe slightly more ‘roast dinner’ than I’d have gone for but does look decent

  • I’ve not been for a couple of years, but the food in the Dartmouth Arms has always been excellent when I’ve visited. It’s definitely not Sunday roast style either.

  • Except it’s a Meat Liquor outfit these days. Oh.

  • Any new Mexican restaurants opened in London since 2019?

  • I was about to say! Has its place, but I don't reckon it's one to take grandparents to

  • Babur Buffet!

£17.95 for adults and £10.95 for children 7 – 12 years old – children under 7 eat for free.

  • La Chingada or Sonora?

  • Also, has Kew Grill shut?

Not exactly but looks like it's now https://grilloffthegreen.com/

  • Haven’t been in years, so would need to look at the reviews, but this was good on a Sunday, accompanied by a walk in the woods.

  • The last time I went there the food was beyond awful. It was a fair few years ago though.

  • Fair enough. Looks completely roasty anyway, too.

Been here with kids a few times and it’s not bad: https://ristoranteolivelli.co.uk/

  • More options to be had in East Dulwich which isn't far on the bus. Palmerston or Fanklins probably a step up from most Sunday roast type places. The Palmerston has changed hands since I last went but it used to be very good. I'm sure grandparents would be fine with either.

  • Grind is surprisingly child friendly and food is pretty reasonable. Coffee good too
