  • TL:DNR Sometimes renting is better than buying imo

Good advice if you are a standard size bloke going to big resorts. Bad advice if you are non-standard size bloke, female, or going to smaller resorts.

  • How's the holiday going? Moar pics required!

  • Back in the UK :( managed 6 days out of 2 weeks due to catching covid but those 6 days were bloody great. I've got a few pics which I'll post shortly (@leggy_blonde has about a billion!)

  • I caught covid on mine as well... Only realised when I got back. Just thought I was super unfit. Wheezing on the lifts up and struggling to breathe tightening my bindings. Really annoying because I probably lost about half my holiday being exhausted.

  • Opposite for me...felt totally fine but had a positive test so spent 7 days self isolating in the hotel.

  • I only bought my (decade old now) Custom X when I was heading off for weekends from Tokyo, where every minute counts and the resorts were smaller, with less choice to rent. When going for a whole week to a proper resort, I'd totally rent now as it saves so much hassle.

Not sure I could go back to rental boots though.

  • Only a couple....

This is our route down La Banane, which is the easiest peasiest couloir at La Grave (and also probably my limit)

Watching the group dropping in at the top

    Inside a glacier cave

Ran out of snow before we ran out of mountain

Not La Grave - a few lines after a sketchy start

  • Is it bad luck to try on a new helmet indoors.... Asking for a mate.....😂

  • That's great! Looks like fun!

  • Safety before bed should never be taken lightly. Glad to see you're sporting proper protection. You just don't know when you'll fall out of bed.

  • 2012 bataleon evil twin with Union new old stock 2012 contract pro bindings.
Heading to my local snowboarding shop Monday to get some boots and then heading down the snowdome to see how it rides.
Probably need to make adjustments asniv never set a board up before.

  • I have a selection of things i need to get rid of.

Free to anyone that can collect, or at cost of postage:

    1. Six One D3O knee guards - used for years but still with loads of life in them.
    2. Sno!Zone outdoor gloves - Used one holiday when I forgot my gloves at home. Some signs of wear on the fingertips but still with loads of life
    3. Burtons Gloves - wear on the fingers but still with life in them. (nice looking gloves)
    4. Black peaked beanie, hood balaclava thing with zip up face
    5. Black Addidas inner gloves
    6. Grey knitted gloves

  • Ooh new bindings unboxing!

First thought: wow! Bindings have got a LOT lighter!

Second thought: plastic mounting discs...is this normal now? Don't the holes loosen?

  • Nice! Ready for VT...

Plastic discs are they way forward.

  • thats lovely!!

  • Nice! Ready for VT...

Yes :) I've been riding Ride DVAs for at least 15 years so will be interesting to see if I notice much difference.

  • VTs? DVAs?

  • VT = Val Thorens dahhling

  • DVA - Ride DVA, pronounced Diva. Because sports companies still think offensive gender stereotypes are the best way to appeal to ladybrain people.(*)

The other Ride women's binding was called VXN.

(*) To be fair, Ride eventually dropped those names. In 2021.

  • VT = Val Thorens dahhling

    Sounds fancy

  • The other Ride women's binding

What makes it a women's binding!? Dont we have the same ankles?

    Lovely bindings whichever way.

  • Anyone got any good site suggestions to look at? Want to plan a long weekend with mates early 2023.

Currently thinking either of train to Austria (idk where) or stay in Granada and drive up to the Sierra Navada(sp?) - the logic being they Granada is cheap and might be more fun if any non-snowboarders came.
    Cheers

  • Sierra Nevada is a cool place if you happen to be in the area but I wouldn't go there specifically to snowboard. It is pretty barren and exposed and so can be very windy! Also being in a very sunny part of the world, the pistes get solid very quickly (or slushy at the end of the season which is actually great fun).

Innsbruck is a fun city with easy access to the slopes. Depends what activities any non-snowboarders are interested in.
