Is farrow and ball paint worth it, can't B&Q just colour match it? Just had our living room reskimmed so now to look at 18 types of grey paint!

No

Thank you.

Yes, yes they can and will. What's more the paint will be better quality especially if you can find somewhere to colour match Zinsser AllClean (not sure b&q will do this). Then you will have better paint that can be scrubbed clean of grubby fingerprints that are invariably left everywhere young children go.

I really rate Craig & Rose - not quite as expensive as F&B but excellent quality and great coverage. Nice range of colours too.

Thanks all for the advice. It's our first house so learning a lot quickly on the DIY front. So glad we got the room reskimmed for what it cost. Last week I knocked through the boarded up fireplace so starting to get more excited now I can see it all coming together.

F&B actually pretty nice colours, and not sure you will get an accurate colour match with other brands (if that is important to you). But application is very different from mainstream paints such as Dulux, and not in a good way, I found.

Ooooo, contentious. I've known fist fights over that question. Derek the Decorator who recently did my living room (not in F&B) goes puce with rage if you even mention Farrow, let alone Ball.
F&B good points: YMMV, but it's a good range of colours, although they can be colour matched. Applied well it gives a nice chalky and very matt finish with no sheen or gloss.
F&B bad points: Needs more coats than other paints for decent coverage, it's not a very durable finish, and it'll scuff and stain easily.
My living room has recently gone from the previous owners' slime green (they only moved out 18 years ago) to Dulux Trade Diamond Chic Shadow (aka grey). So obviously that's what you should get too, cos that's what all the cool kids have.
P.S. I would mention that my bin store with electrically-actuated lids is painted in F&B paint, but that's probably just more Golf Club ammo.

Absolutely shite paint, buy something good and get it colour matched

See I wouldn’t use that feature so it’s ruined on me.
I do need to clear out my tool bag tho, got about 10 kg of scrap lying about the bottom of it but found a packet of chewits todya while searching it.
Win win

Worth pointing out that to save a bit of money you only need the hard wearing paint in high traffic areas.
A clean rubber/pencil eraser gets rid of a lot of the marks on my folks dulux extra tough (or whatever its called) F&B colour matched paint. Admittedly I no longer have grubby fingers.

F+B yes I guess if you've got new surfaces and want them to look baller.
C+R do similar period looking finishs (flat/no sheen/good texture) for a bit less money
Or stick with the main brands, always been happy with Leyland for simple colours.
B+Q own brand stuff, VERY mixed results. I wouldn't use it anymore on anything that you would potentially see (cupboard usage etc) as have had several large rooms turn into a right mess when tins of paint from B+Q from same batch code don't anywhere near match in colour, texture or finish, was really weird. Ended up flattening down, white out and then used the big D instead. If you have oldschool plaster/lime/horsehair etc, consider using 'clay' paints, theres an online company that does them, really similar finish to the F+B and C+R period finishs, but less money, and apparently breath better

ive worked on numerous restoration jobs namely west end theatres. the colour scheme was always F&B by the interior designer, the planners / heritage team approved the colour scheme (grade 2* requirement). yet the decorator went to Leyland and matched the lot. Once applied no one checked on site.. ridiculous and frankly a kick in the farrows for anyone thinking to spend over the odds for a lick of colour..

Loving all the real-world reviews of F&B, glad I asked!

tl;dr people rate what they are comfortable working with

We've got basic dulux stuff in our gaff, it's held up OK. It's probably one of the least shite things here.

we used to use F&B a lot but i think mainly because the colours were better than the usual B&Q stuff. i think a lot of other companies have much better contemporary colours nowadays.
currently we're redecorating most of our house with lick paint which have a great range of hues and goes on really nicely.
quick WIP shot (still need to do the rads)

my next project is to make the mess behind the door match the render...

Brilliant thank you. Although, after finally deciding I'd paint our doors (very similar to yours) I'm now doubting myself. Gaff looks pretty slick for here.

Took the day off to finish off a few jobs in our bathroom, including tiling a small area around the sink.
My wife's away so thought it would be a nice surprise, spent the morning so far prepping, building a frame and marking out, moved to the tiles, but my crappy tile cutter won't cut the fancy porcelain tiles we bought, now ringing round trying to hire a decent one FML.
The hook is an absolute game changer
