I’ll let my GF know. I’m vegan so depending on the restaurant japanese is not always an easy option.

We had a reservation once and then something came up and it’s always one I regret. Never heard anything but fantastic reviews. Glad you had a lovely time!

Finally got to Antillian last week now they’re back open for lunchtime bookings. I didn’t see the bill but it was pricy, fantastic food cooked by a 21 yo Eastern European chef (!) and a great rum list.

Just tried out a new Venezuelan place at the end of the road: http://arepasanddeli.com/
Got the ‘ Pabellon’ Arepas: Beef, Black Beans, Plantain, Cheese.
Absolutely stunning.

Similar vibe from Tomoe in Putney. Been great for years.

Looks great, I will check it out this weekend.

Thanks for all the earlier suggestions. My cousin just got Covid so it was all for nothing. 😂 Oh well.

Any suggestions for affordable and quick eats in Slough...it's where we're stopping off on a drive north so we don't want to be hanging around too long but would be good to get our holiday off on the right footing

Anywhere near Homerton hospital that would be good for a weekday breakfast?

Is dark arts doing good again yet?

Good shout, I knew they'd moved but I hadn't realised that it was centimetres away from where they were before.

No they're not, but Chatsworth Road has some good places. 46b espresso hut does good coffee and has smaller breakfast options like grilled breakfast sandwiches.
If you're happy to walk a bit further up Chatsworth road if you've got time, Millfields is excellent.

Thanks for the tips - in the end we were a bit pushed for time but went to Grand Howl on Dark Arts' recommendation and it was excellent.
Chatsworth Road would have been easier actually, but I hate going back towards the way we came.

here is an article about the same topic without paywall

Corbyn & King fostered a fantastic culture amongst their staff and were always well spoken of by the team members that I’ve worked with.
I found it hard to reconcile that with a meeting I attended a few years back where JK argued that if the service charge wasn’t kept by his restaurants they’d be unprofitable.

I should add that Brasserie Zedel is still probably the best all round value dining experience in London. If you haven’t been then get yourself down there sharpish, it will be like visiting Cuba before Fidel died.

That place looks interesting, not been before, I'll have to check it out soon

I think the food doesn't really match the decor, if they could bump it up to the level of
Pierre Victoire/ Prix Fixe it would be brilliant. -

My favourite Corbyn / King experience - since the heyday of Le Caprice / The Ivy, was /is coffee and cake at the counter at Delaunay.

Look at the prices though, a decent steak hache with fries and a chocolate tart for £12 in a fantastic room. It makes a special night out accessible to the many rather than the few.

100 percent. I'm out of date but about 3 years ago worked opposite the hippodrome. Brasserie Zedel was a go to especially for anyone visiting. Tbf it's pretty hard to live up to the surroundings and the food was always well worth the price for very Central.
On the other end of the scale my other go tos for great food under a tenner were:
Canton for 3 roast meats mixed & rice
Canton

Lanzhou Lamian Noodle Bar

If you’re a fan of Japanese I can recommend Takahashi in South Wimbledon, just by the tube. Looks like a different vibe to Tetsu but very good.
