• Any tips on getting this unscrewed and out the frame?
    Struggling on 2 fronts.

    1. Grip, the tool only just slots in to engage by a few mm, and keeping it in place under pressure is not working. Concerned there may not be too many more attempts without damaging the slots too much.
    2. Lack of movement, seems it is fairly secure, applied plenty of WD40 to see if that aided movement but still stubborn under force.

    Thanks.

  • Got a photo of the other side of BB?

  • First off, bb tool in the vice and frame ontop. Uses the weight of the frame to keep the cup on the tool.

Next up, if the other side moves, get out out and knock the cartridge unit out to that side. That way you are only dealing with that cup and getting full engagement of the tool.

Lastly, if it really won’t shift the cut out out, it’s aluminium and Miche aluminium at that so it ain’t going to take you too long.

  • not all freewheel/bb tools are born equal, some have thinner walls and are hollow all the way through and will engage further in to the cup. I have found that style of BB cup to be haphazard though and often the splines just disintegrate. Normally i would bolt the tool on with a washer placed over the end if necessary and then a crank screw or similar inserted back into the axle, this then removes the possibility of the tool slipping out to get the cup moving. If you get one side and the cartridge unit out but the remaining cup still will not budge then i drew a diagram of a method - might be in hacks n bodges or mechanics and fixing threads.

  • Miche aluminium

    😈

  • Cheers, the drive side looks like the tool engages deeper on so will try removing that.

  • This is the way!

Bolt that sucka on - if you need it I've probably got something that can help in SE1.

  • It may seem daft but are you turning it the right way? I’ve spent days wrestling with bottom brackets, trying everything under the sun, only to realise I was turning it the wrong way.
