Probably the Ikawa suits better to be honest. It seems to be relatively self-contained and not very messy. But I'm willing to bet that it'll be a short lived fad. If he wants to offload it for 25% RRP after a few weeks give me a shout ;)
Mine is pretty good in terms of value for money, but you end up with some chaff over the worktop.
The Kaldi range are a bit more heavy duty but generally require a decent burner which might not fit with the rest of the kitchen aesthetic.
Not sure if they've got a place to buy green beans from, but I've found Redber to be pretty good in terms of value and selection.
My brother in law has a lot of disposable money. They just switched from moka pot to the big boy cash money Sage bean to cup espresso machine and he's basically gone off a cliff into spending money.
I think he literally just wants to try it and see how it goes for a few months and he likes the design/aesthetic of it.
I'll pass on your recommendation to him though
