  • That poor derailleur. Clinging on for fear life.

    Impressive stuff though.

  • That's big-big, just to test. Not gonna be in that normally.

  • Running a double? Even better. What combo up front?

  • 48/32 comes stock on this Sequoia

The chain came off my bike with that cassette and was cut for 46/34.

  • Does anybody know if SRAM have completely discontinued 11sp Red eTAP stuff, or is the lack of product everywhere just down to supply shortages?

  • It's not on their website anymore, so it's safe to so say it's discontinued.

  • Is the 12 speed Sram road stuff (12 speed in general) prone to wearing quickly?

A mate has bought a bike second hand that has done a supposed ‘1000km’ and the big ring is gubbed.

Personally I’ve only ever worn one set of chainrings out because I keep on top of chain wear.

Narrower chains presumably don’t help in all of this.

  • 12 speed chains definitely wear out much faster, certainly in the MTB world. 1000km is well past replacing an Eagle chain, in most cases.
By the time we get to 14spd, we'll be replacing chains every other ride.

  • Can’t speak for Sram. But I’ve been using a 12s Campi chain in all conditions for 6,500k and it’s only at 0.5 stretch

  • I got tarty Red AXS rings and the wear seems better than 11spd so far. Chain with OCD levels of cleaning did a year, gone to wax on the replacement and too early to tell.

  • supposed ‘1000km’

Only in the dry as well obviously.

  • ‘Best bike so only done dry miles.’

Probably been cross chained for 4,000km through winter.

Apparently you have to swap the WHOLE thing out including the PM. You get 50% off a new one - but only if you’re the original owner.

  • Looks good as new when you pick it up because they've spent an hour pressure washing it.

  • I finally fitted the 1x11 sensah groupset that I got off AliExpress. Spent the day going round Ashridge estate with my 8 year old and I can give it the highest possible praise for a groupo costing just north of a ton. It’s totally fine.

It has a sram- type double tap lever which I find a bit odd (never having sram before), but aside from that it’s totally functional, shifts well, comfortable hoods, goes from 11t to 46t on the back, and is exactly like dura ace except not as heavy.

Can’t talk to longevity, but it’s possibly right up there with microshift and sora.

    Huh?

  • Yeah, that last comment was stretching things a little

  • Good that you like it. Double tap always seemed a little weird to me too, but you probably get used to it.

  • Fun

  • What happened?

  • Shifted gear under load and boom

  • It would be an epic fixing job, but this guy has lots of insurance salvage stuff where servo doesnt work etc, but you could save the body? Of course then you'll have to deal with the pins and rivets and etc...

Throw it my way if you already gave up on it :)

  • I'm parts collecting in readiness for my Brother Kepler frame in July. This is to replace my Surly Cross Check as my do it all bike, so that's all year round commuter, weekly Lidl-shop-stuffed-into-panniers steed, and weekend bikepacking bike, all these miles being 98% on paved.
Is a 1x groupset a silly for idea for this sort of application? 40t or 42t and 11-42T cassette.
Bear in mind, this Kepler would be my first build without downtube shifters and a front mech...

  • Seems like you go through more RDs than chains mate!

  • I think the only thing you might struggle with and want 2x is the bike packing and going up hills loaded, if you're already OK with standing up and smashing up hills then you'll be fine, if you're like me and crawl up them in a spinny gear then you might want to go 2x.

  • Yeah. Or spinning out on the descents if using a 40t chainring..?
