Just mounted a brand new Apex ream mech on my girlfriends bike. Theres a significant amount of lateral play between the mech hanger and the derailleur. I'm assuming this isn't normal, especially when theres zero play on my own bikes?
Would it also be logical to assume that its a problem with the mech hanger on the frame? -

Is the mech hanger a removable one, or is it part of the frame…? If removable, is it tightly mounted? Pictures might help
Often mechs develop play over time, but weird that yours is new

Sram Apex 1 RD, 11-42 Cassete, Shimano FC-7402 Crankset, 40t Narrow Wide Chainring.
What bottom bracket length is neccasary to get the right chainline? -

Will a lifeline headset press work on BB30 bearings? I'm just trying to get maximum bang for my buck.

Pack the replaceable hanger out with a beer can shim?

I just installed a pressfit BB with a G clamp and a couple of pieces of wood 😆

Yeah that's what I do with all my headsets, I just thought BB30s were a bit less forgiving but I'll probably just end up whacking them in tbh.

yes, works fine

I have a 2x1 set up with a ss chain tensioner at the back. I just replaced the chain and it's now skipping on the small front ring like it's trying to shift up. Wasn't doing this with the old chain and it doesn't skip/jump on the big ring. Haven't changed chainline or anything else. I can't see anything obvious causing this. Any thoughts on troubleshooting? Thanks

Chainring worn out?

is the new chain the same speed as the old one?

Really really new to gears, building my first proper road bike and have come to a dead end with my Campagnolo Centaur FD - it won't move far enough out for the outer ring on the double. Is it just a case of BB length or am I missing a trick?

I assume you've adjusted the limit screws?
-

Does campagnolo stuff have upper & lower limit screws? Shimano does, these will adjust the swing. You'd need to loosen off the outer limit screw in this case iirc.

Got an issue here, no clearance between brake pad and fork leg. need canti brakes instead? Can I get shorter pads?

Looks like a tasty build.
Besides FD limit screws there are two other things to check:
- Have you got the correct length BB?
- Is the crank tightened nice-and-bloody-tight (50Nm+) down onto the BB?
- Have you got the correct length BB?

Did you tension the cable whilst the mech was in the small ring position? Even a tiny bit of slack fucks up the pull distance (again Shimano experience only).

Yep, hopefully will be in the not so distant future when I can figure out some small problems.
Not 100% sure about the BB length to be honest, have tried googling to no avail - only specs for the new gen of Centaur.
Good shout on the crank, will double check!

Also, can you remove cable and push it over by hand as a test - that'll tell you if limit screws are adjusted to the right places.

Nice!

You can also measure chainline to get an idea if your crank is correctly positioned. A road double crank (albeit Shimano, but probably v similar for Campagnolo) should have outer ring at 46 mm and inner ring at 41 mm outboard from the centre of the seat tube.

yeah, you want old school cantis or Shimano CX50 / CX70 if you actually want to stop
or you could try these https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/kool-stop-thinline-threaded-pair-of-v-brake-blocks

That's the one - thank you! Outer at 52mm atm, so wrong BB length.
Very much appreciate the help!
Never experienced any chain slap with my rx 8000 clutch . In fact i forgot it had one until now .
