It’s weird isn’t it? You spend so long listening to someone that you feel like you know them well and almost consider them a friend. I can’t quite grasp that we’ll never hear him again, that delightful interplay between him, Friebe and Birnie, which made it feel like you were part of a conversation between friends.
I was fortunate enough to meet him a few times, mainly at races up in Scotland in the 90s, and he was far too nice to be a bike racer, even though he was damn good at it.
