Great news!
Tim Declercq returns to racing at Dwars door Vlaanderen

Egan's physiology will still be broadly the same as it was.
Yeah, but his spine might not be. All the CV in the world is no good if you can't pedal properly.
I really hope he comes back strong but he broke, what, 20 bones?

It would be incredible if he contested at grand tours again. I really hope he does.
For Declerq fans, I posted a video interview with him and Stephen Seiler in the training thread a few weeks ago. Nice convo.

Do you know who else came back from a similar situation and won 7 Tour de France?

Feel like it is notable that all the footage and pics of his return - his hands are on the tops, never on the hoods or drops. Not a good sign for his back.

Lemond came back after getting shot.
Bernal could be incredibly lucky. He’s not had much time off the bike and crucially he’s still pretty young.

No-one, not even Bernal, knows if he’ll get back to his previous level. What is clear though, is that his attempts to get there won’t be through a lack of effort.

The reason Froome didn’t come back was because he ditched the jeans & sheux look.

Pogacar is as short as 8/1 today and about 9/1 for Sunday. Bookies wary of a kicking I’d say.

Thanks for throwing me back into a 2013 media sales strategy meeting.

I’m surprised that Trinity Racing have missed out on an invitation to the u23 Giro. They won it with Pidcock in 2020, won a stage with Ben Healy last year and had Thomas Gloag finish 4th on GC. Given Gloag would be riding again, you’d think the organisers would be keen to have him back.

Unless another team sponsor bribed them?

Cycling Podcast host Richard Moore has died. I had to read the tweet several times myself.
https://twitter.com/cycling_podcast/status/1509105587615072258?s=21&t=9xSBoqlYv-VQc6ruzMm0LQ
Without him and the podcast, my knowledge and understanding of cycling would be very limited. He’s one of the voices of cycling and following the Tour won’t be the same. I hope Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe are okay.
His book on Robert Millar is brilliant too.

wow wtf - I'm reeling from that. he was only 49
rest in peace, RM

Can’t quite believe that. Shocking. Very sad.

Slaying the Badger is also a superb book. Huge loss for the sport.

It’s weird isn’t it? You spend so long listening to someone that you feel like you know them well and almost consider them a friend. I can’t quite grasp that we’ll never hear him again, that delightful interplay between him, Friebe and Birnie, which made it feel like you were part of a conversation between friends.
I was fortunate enough to meet him a few times, mainly at races up in Scotland in the 90s, and he was far too nice to be a bike racer, even though he was damn good at it.

So true. I work alone a lot and a new Cycling Podcast was always a bit of a fillip.

Such sad news, RIP Richard.
I would think a whistleblower would pick someone the trust to investigate and expose the case, like Walsh.
