Nah.
Watch the version with the audio uncut and both look in shock. Will Smith is definitely not that good an actor.
The craziest thing is that he's at the after party and people are singing and dancing with him. He literally assaulted someone on live TV. Nuts.

Thinking of all the other Will Smiths out there on social media, especially the verified types:

That's what makes me feel pretty certain it was staged.

Just like @johnlewis

It's fucking bizarre though. Why would he agree to assault someone live on TV? Surely he's not that desperate for publicity? There wasn't a punch line (....) and no reveal of it being fake etc.

best comment on youtube "It's such a joy to see comedians working together. One prepared the setup and the other delivered the punch"

It was a big reaction but the guy just made a joke about his wife going bald from alopecia.

Yeah, I don't have a good answer for that. Perhaps in more macho environments "protecting your family" with physical violence plays better?
-
• #94639
Sure. Chris Rock is cunt for that joke but it doesn't deserve violence, especially when you have such a massive global platform. Imagine how many people may use that clip as part of their own internal reason to justify their violent reactions in the future.
-
• #94640
Yeah I'm not saying I agree with his reaction, a loud "what the fuck" would have sufficed
-
• #94641
Yeah. Also, I'm pretty certain he knew he was picking up best actor. A nice 2 min platform to chew Chris Rock out about the joke too.
Anyway, it's all fucking daft rich cunts being cunts.
Back to war, global warming and poverty memes hopefully.

Guardian article with possible reasonings as to why Will Smith went slaptacular.https://www.theguardian.com/film/2022/mar/28/will-smith-abusive-childhood-chris-rock-oscars

If that warrants you a slap, surely Ricky Gervais should have been beaten to death numerous times at awards shows.

I meant more about the Oscars in general. The news this morning reported it along the lines of "Usually the Oscars get about 9m viewers, this clip alone has been watched 150m times."
-
• #94645
That's my point too though.
Why would Will Smith or Chris Rock agree to do that? The only 'winner' is the Oscars themselves. It's not like either of them are up and coming people with a thirst for some edgy publicity.

If you watch the unedited clip it’s glaringly clear that is was not staged.
Amazes me that we’re so deep in post truth, that literally every event has a group of people who think said event is fake.

And Sacha Baron Cohen too, ideally as soon as the 11 o'clock show brought them to far more attention than either deserved.

I saw the full clip and it struck me that it was staged. I’ve been at certain events where someone has said the wrong thing and suffered. There was a delay before Will Smith got angry. I’ve never seen that delay before. Also, a slap? Again, I haven’t seen that before either.
Just my 2p. -

“Infidelity is one thing, but jokes is where I draw the line” - Will Smith

There’s plenty of things I’ve never directly experienced but I can comprehend they still happened.
Slap truthers is what your people are being called on twitter 😉
