Effectively (in practice) they might be, but not exactly the same I thought? I say that, but Im a happy user of a shimano cassette with a campag groupset.

All cassette spacing is the same across all Shimano/SRAM 6/7/8/9/10/11/12 speed road and MTB cassettes/freewheels of the same speed, the differences are in what amount of cable the shifters pull and the derailleurs expect. The Shimano road (under 32t) 11 speed isn't compatible with a 8/9/10 speed freehub because it's too wide in total, the MTB and road 34t fit because they overhang the back of the freehub a bit because the big sprocket has room too as the spokes are heading towards the rim more at that point, the spacing between them is the same.
