• Or Wolfworthy, or Patron Project (which sends profits to shelters apparently) or Orijen.
    Etc, etc, etc.
    Essentially:

    And go from there.
Dora's on normal kibble until I decide otherwise. She seems happy and healthy.

    Which reminds me-

    1. If anyone wants a tonne of Raw food- please come pick it up, for free. (mix of Naturaw/ Paleoridge- the latter I do not rate highly at all)
    2. If anyone wants a bag of Wolfworthy for free, come pick it up
    3. If anyone wants a bag of Patron Project for free, come pick it up

    (all from Putney).

  • The Paleo Ridge stuff is a fucking rip off. When I looked it was ~£52 for 8kg of food.

I pay £24 locally and it comes in nice plastic containers that I don’t have to decant into a Tupperware.

Whichever way you cut it - it’s all just abattoir leftovers. Dogs are scavengers. As long as raw food broadly complies with the 80:10:10 rule, they’ll thrive on it.

  • 6k of 20k zone 2 fat burner nose breathing.

  • Feeling a bit sorry for this guy.

He was just playing with a dog he normally gets on very well with and just got a big bite to the face. Off to the vet tomorrow for antibiotics.

This is the third time Otto has had a notable wound from other dogs. An accidental bite from a doberman puppy, a nasty wound from a Maltese that needed 40+ sutures and a chest drain, and now this.

For us, not having plastic containers is a plus.

We pay £4.29 per kg for Paleoridge. ~£34 for 8kg. Still a tenner more than your supplier.

  • I'd be interested to read some reliable info on this. I've fed three dogs Nature's Menu and all have loved it (to be fair, they'd eat horse shit out of a bowl if you gave it to them). I like the portions it comes in - 400g blocks, nuggets, "free flow" mince, bags of wings and necks - all of which mean it can easily be defrosted overnight/during the day, so gets around @HatBeard 's issue. If there are proven cases of poisoning in this country, it would be good to know - 10 minutes searching reveals some product recalls, but that is the case with pretty much all producers, including Paleoridge.

Natures Menu was founded in the 80s and has changed hands two or three times in the last ten years or so. Its currently owned by a shell company that is controlled by Agrilomen, a pet food producer with a half billion turnover.

Unfortunately, Paeloridge have removed the section on their web site about their early history and for some reason waybackmachine do not have an archive for any of their domains (not sure how this is possible) so I can't back up anything I said about it.

For what its worth, I agree with what you said about there being some recalls but no more than most other industrial pet food producers.

  • Oh no, poor lad! Is he feeling a bit sorry for himself?

  • Tell him not to worry Ciq digs scars.

  • Apparently the Jester has adopted my local dog walking park atm. Did notice a lot of bird racket this morning but probably a coincidence.

  • Cold (snow!!) walk in Barcelona with this awesome squad.

Getting them to stay was a lot easier than I thought it might be.

apparently we're all doing it wrong. a single dog trainer who has branded her entire business ideology around this one thing says not to do it and she's been in the business for 3 whole years...

all the stuff she'd advocating as a replacement is stuff most decent owners do between walks right?

  • Our behaviourist is also an advocate of having days at home playing games which build engagement etc maybe once a week.

The problem is that a) our male dog won’t shit in the garden and b) I walk them as much for myself as I do for them.

  • The old school gun-dog rules aren't dissimilar. Ideally you only want to put the lead on when they listen to you and stick to your side. Its impracticable for most people, and as the percentage sign says- if we're all totally honest, a walk is a great excuse to get out of the house.

  • “Encouraging people to drop their 30 minute walk”… I might be doing it wrong, but mine go out twice a day and one of those is for an hour.

And we do our “training games” while we’re out. Doesn’t stop us from doing it at home too.

  • You're all falling for click bait.

  • but you won't believe what happened after we did.

  • but you won't believe what happened after we did.

You just going to leave us hanging like that?

  • Every so often we take Bosco on a "sniffing walk" where we let him lead the way and let him sniff whatever he wants, for as long as he wants.
Usually takes about 30-45 minutes, up the tree lined alley, and down an adjacent residential street.
Probably 1km distance, so lots of standing around, but he loves it, and I get to listen to a podcast.

  • Thats what I do for Otto for his afternoon walk most days.

  • That's every walk with benny. my mum actually calls it going on his sniffer walk when she takes him out near her flat.

I see it as his doggy version of me reading my social media and forums when I wake up and the walk is his time so I just dawdle along and let him do his thing.

  • After 6+ months are sleep filled nights, Bosco has decided he doesn't like being in his crate.
He has always slept in his crate, on the landing, zero dramas.
Friday night he barked until I took him out if it, and he fell asleep on the sofa.
Put it down to not getting his evening walk and being a bit energised (my fault)
Saturday he went to day care for the day so should have been completed bushed.
Put him in his crate, and barking commenced.
No reason for him to be suddenly scared of his sleep area, he isn't put in there outside of sleepy time (like punishment)

Weirdly, on Friday, he settled in his travel box for the night, so it isn't the confined spaces.

Other than restarting crate training (which we are doing today) any ideas?

  • Good day out with Daisy yesterday up Werneth Low on the outskirts of Stockport. She had a great time playing off-lead with a load of dogs, did really well at her recall and even managed to behave kinda well in the pub afterwards despite there being a couple other dogs around.
Learned a lot really - she seemingly can manage other dogs around indoors, and outdoors if she's off lead, but her manners are absolute poop if she's on lead.
Came out of the day suddenly feeling like the whole "us & daisy" thing was a lot more livable and long-term doable (there's been a lot of doubt about whether we actually could do this), so feeling really good!
