Off for the test ride. We'll see if the mood persists, for both.

dont forget to get pastries from comptoir gourmand!
Also give the Load 60 a go as you are there anyway, the test version they have has the unrestricted motor.

Getting pizza from pizza pilgrims.
How much time I have depends on how long this one's patience holds out

Was this one at the end of its life then you reckon?

excellent!

I would say so, but my last one was more worn and didn't lose any teeth. Never happened on my mtb either.

Mini_com didn't want the test ride to end

Maybe you need a gates snubber

With a mid drive or full human power?
Would say either 1) been run over tightened for a lot of its life 2) salt /uv damage caused it to break down. 3) could be your hub imploded /locked up causing it to rip through teeth as you were pedalling forward. You do see old/super worn gates with the odd tooth partially missing, but usually after 6 to 8k miles min tbh.

Cheap, unless it's a bit of a pile!
Recently had someone who bought a used eBullitt from the continent, brought it in for a "can you check it over/mini service" kind of a deal. Worst bike I've ever seen. I think the only component that is not damaged to the point of near scrap is the motor, stem and seatpost. Worse still they paid over £3.5k for it. Would say its done a solid 20k miles in 3 years lol. On its second motor and feels ok. But honestly don't think I've ever seen something with such a huge shopping list, seller got a very good deal!

Human power. After running Gates for over a decade I know how to run them. The hub is still running exactly the same as before with the new belt on. Salt damage is possible as I work six days a week, all year...but it's never happened before. I'm riding well over 6 to 8k a year though. Just odd that it's never happened to any of my other belts.

Maybe a stone got in there at some point, or maybe it was just a bad one. Recently had a cam belt issue, same belt from sane company, same tensioner from same company as always had before (fitted dozens over the years). And this one made an annoying noise, flipped it 180 degrees and made a different annoying noise. Turns out the belt was slightly conical. Mftr was actually fairly interested in getting belt back so they could see why it was bad, and if course sent me a new one. Didn't make up for the days of head scratching as to what the noise was, and all the other components i dissemble or replaced trying to cure it.

The only one I've ever snapped was due to a muddy field filled with stones. 😂
I know I should probably run a regular chain as it's a work bike, but despite those two failures I absolutely love belt drive.
If I could afford to keep a spare drivetrain always I'd be ok, but sadly I can't. 🙁 -

Hey everyone. Any recommendations for a rear Bullitt rack? I have a nexus 8, with a coaster brake, on the rear wheel, if that makes any difference. Thanks.

I've had two belts fail like this. Both with less than six months usage each.

I wonder if they had a bad batch? 🤔

Not trying to be a hero, but to remove expensive and heavy barriers of entry.

£160 to add the Tern to my contents insurance. Any point in shopping around?

no

Roger, sorted.

I've been running belt drives for about the last ten years. With those two as the exception where they delaminated, the rest have all lasted really well.

What a heroic effort! And fingers crossed that doesn't happen again

Can I ask who your insurance is with? I couldn't add my Bullitt to my house insurance as they wouldn't cover a single bike over a grand (unlimited bikes but maximum a grand each) so I've gone with Laka and it's more than double that for the year.
yes exactly, if having a cover means I can use it more where I'd have driven OR used public transport, I'd rather have the cover
