I'm a fan of silicone bar tape. ESI or fabric, it wears much better than lizardskins and supacaz, but retains the tackiness.

Am I missing a trick here, I use pretty much the same style medium thickness fizik black tacky tape across all my bikes. Can you buy massive rolls of good tape? Feels dumb buying several individual £££ packets each time when I could just cut a length off a roll..

I've never seen massive rolls of tape, but I agree it would be good to be able to buy a few metres at a time and just use what you need each time.
On a similar note, has anyone used old inner tubes as bar tape, much like the classic homebrew chainstay protector method? I'm pondering the idea, and wondering if I'm missing something obvious like it's massively uncomfortable on bare hands or something. I could try it on top of my current tape for a ride or two and see how it goes I suppose.

Not on drops but when I used to bmx I tried it. Wears really badly and makes your hands filthy.

Or, if you're feeling flush:
Definitely feel like kaleido tape is worth the expense. I just untaped a set of bars the other day that have had it on for...3 or 4 years. I hit the deck and put a bit of a gash in it but everywhere else it was still looking good as new.

@si_mon628 Yeah, I found it works pretty good. I cut it in half first (lengthways) and wash it, then wrap with the underside showing, so it resembles normal tape. It can also go under bar tape to add cushioning.

Have just had the displeasure of wrapping my bars with Lizardskin 2.5... Never again.
Was in the sale, people rave about it, thought I'd try some. Impossible to wrap without pulling it a bit, which it says not to, as I now understand because it immediately stretches at the slightest opportunity. It's like it's made of plasticine.I could, and should, have bought 4 rolls of Lifeline stuff instead because that's actually good

it feels so nice without gloves though

The fizik microtex tacky stuff is fantastic. So grippy

In the cold light of day, I will admit that it does actually feel very nice. But it definitely wasn't designed by anyone who's had to wrap bars before

Anyone used padded Newbaums tape? Seems pricey, but looking for something thin but with a bit of comfort.

Has anyone used any of this yet https://grepp.cc/products/handlebar-tape-black ?
Washable, thin and fairly cheap seems appealing for my mucky self. The reviews aren't great but then I don't like padded tape (which seems to be the main criticisim)

No but I’ve just bought this which ticks the thin and fairly cheap box.
I’ve not installed it yet but it looks and feels decent in the hand.

seemingly not shipping to the UK, anyone know of a supplier here on brexit island? sounds like it ticks all of my boxes.

It is really comfy. It's basically like your regular cork tape with a thin fabric layer on top. I really like it. It does take a moment longer to dry though if cycled through the rain.

Cheapest random coloured cork tape I could find with fabric tape over the top is the way I’ve gone in the past. It held up well.

Has anyone used the Sapacaz super sticky kush bar tape? looking at the gravel brown version for a ti bike

Black electrical tape?

That matches neither of those criteria. Matches it batter than other commercial tapes, but not remotely as good as the supacaz stuff. Unsure whats the "better quality" brand, but I'm using proper 3M and in high temps (eg: Sunshine) over time the glue gives, tape starts slipping back on itself if its stretched. If it isnt stretched, it doesnt "mold" to the shape of the finish of the bartape as well as the thinner version.
Dont get me wrong, I've been perfectly fine using electrical tape for the past 15 years. But now I know theres a better, neater looking alternative out there. Would be nice to get my hands on a roll of it :)
Vel is Sigma's own brand stuff, although have no experience of it myself.
I agree on Lizard Skins, is grippy but wears really quickly.
I'm a big fan of Arundel, which Sigma also stock, but they only seem to have the more esoteric colours at the moment. It's hard wearing and has that grippy, tacky feel to it.
