• Just built this up, hoping my girlfriend likes it enough to want to cycle places with me!

  • She better, that's fucking cool.

  • Thanks! Those brakes I bought from you look great on it. They work pretty well too if a 10 minute test ride round the park is anything to go by.
Looking at that photo, the line of the mudguards could be a bit better, still some fiddling to do.

  • Looks real nice - but I venture a guess that the rear brake is meant to be mounted the other way
    round.

  • I tried it that way round initially but it was tricky to set up without either a really sharp bend in the cable or a massive loop to avoid a sharp bend. The photo makes the current bend look a lot more severe than it is. Are there any downsides to having it set up this way that I've not thought out? Other than it looking a bit odd.

  • If it works there's probably no need to change it.
But if you do decide to change it, I reckon you could get around the bend by using a flexible v-brake noodle like this:

  • Good suggestion, thanks. It seems to work pretty well but will bear that in mind for the future.

  • Are there any downsides to having it set up this way that I've not thought out?

Be aware the brake pad holders are now backwards. As in, the openings are in the direction the wheel turns. So swap left and right and rotate them 180 degrees.

  • Good call! I hadn't even thought about that. Thanks.

  • I just picked up one of these frames for my mum

  • very nice

  • My wife is a great fan of her cxc!

  • Doesn't need to be a flexible one if it's the right angle, although the solid ones aren't easy to tweak well.

V-brake noodles were my go-to fix for rear brakes on step-throughs when I used to volunteer at the co-op...

  • I used a jagwire thing for road bars which improved things a bit. Can see how upsidedown brake could reduce bends though

  • Found this on gumtree for next to nothing and put some sks guards, decent dynamo set up, Riv bars, carradice and changed a few other details. Set up SS/fixed. Love the upright position for commuting and general potting about. V comfy Kermit bike

  • That's a good solution as well! Will bear these in mind if the current set up causes any issues.

  • Looks good and comfy.

  • Think I have one of them Jagwire flexy pipes in the spares box if you wanna go that way. Let me know and I can pop it in the post for you.

  • Nice!
A close up of the bell please

  • That's really kind, thanks. Still need to give the bike a proper test ride as it is and decide if the brake needs be changing from it's current position. I'll be in touch if I run in to issues and there's nothing suitable I can pinch from work!

  • Of course, thanks. Might try a green one of these.

  • Looks great, probably weighs 3kg less than it did otp

  • Speaking of otp, Marin Kentfield looks pretty dece
