If it works there's probably no need to change it. But if you do decide to change it, I reckon you could get around the bend by using a flexible v-brake noodle like this:
Doesn't need to be a flexible one if it's the right angle, although the solid ones aren't easy to tweak well.
V-brake noodles were my go-to fix for rear brakes on step-throughs when I used to volunteer at the co-op...
