  • @nick_h. How about let’s not

  • Seriously though 13 Pateks and he still can’t get the one he wants. What one is he after?

  • Have I missed the suggestion that these swatch omega mash ups are limited edition ? I am thinking yes , but if not then not sure there will be quite the stampede ??

  • Like many on here I've been frantically hunting for info and I'm sure i saw something saying not limited edition or numbered. Surely the most desirable affordable watch ever they really have nailed this one. I want a black one more than watches costing 5x that which is what i expect these will be getting flipped for in a matter of weeks.

  • What the actual fuck.

  • Haven't seen it state it's limited but I guess will be hard to get hold of because of reduced outlets.

Gonna get to the stage where it's, 'I got the call, my Swatch is in!'

  • I might try and get into the Sydney store on Saturday morning. Maybe the hype hasn't spread down here.... (Wishful thinking) Mars, maybe Earth or Neptune... The black ones looks ace but too close to an actual speedy. May as well choose the fun ones.

  • I'll find out the one he's after out of curiosity. I had a quick Google to see if i could work it which one i think it might be and nothing leapt out at me but i did see a couple of listings asking 200k for the orange one i tried on today 😳

  • Haha! Funny, cause it’s true?

  • My morality question is apparently a baffling, pointless mystery. That's disappointing. I'd hoped that a London cycling forum would contain some people who consider moral issues.

  • Mate, you’re definitely not wrong. Of course It’s good to give money to charity etc. You could definitely do a lot of good with what it cost to buy 13 Pateks. I think it’s ridiculous to spend that sort of money. (Especially if it includes that gash ugly orange thing, but whatever, different strokes for different folks.)

However this is a thread about watches. People who want to chat about and appreciate watches.

Maybe this guy is so rich he already did loads of good. Who knows.

I just don’t think anyone really thinks this is the place for it.

  • It’s just a bit heavy

  • I think it is just the place for it, because whenever I splash out on a luxury I think about the people who can't afford it. Maybe that's just me. I've had a very up and down life, wealth and poverty, sickness and health. And I analyse things a lot. But I don't want to believe that I'm the only one who does.

  • Quite liking this

  • If only it didn’t have the Mercedes hand

  • I think there's going to be a huuuge amount of camping out for the Moonswatches in London. The demographic for them must include a lot more people with flexible hours than it used to, because of the pandemic. And the weather forecast is good. I predict lots of people waiting from Friday am. Or even Thursday.

  • Reference to the original 1977 citizen challenge diver though, so can be forgiven.

  • I think it's more that your slightly random utterances come across as poorly constructed moralistic flailings with very little evidence of a specific position or point. It's all relative. Some people might say that you are worse than the 13 Patek guy by advocating the purchase of deadly weapons for war instead. Some may think that a watch that costs more than a 20 quid Casio is a disgusting overindulgence and is laughing in the face of other people's poverty. Do you think all investments are immoral or just watches, or just Patek Phillipes? Don't answer that, it's a rhetorical question.

Is extreme wealth obscene and bad for our society? I think so, yes. Do I think that opinion needs to be properly framed in a more wide ranging set of priorities and beliefs in order to be taken seriously? Yes.

Do I think that the watch enthusiasts thread on a fixed gear bike forum is a place where that discussion can be fleshed out properly and discussed in depth? No.

Or maybe you are just a troll.

  • Ooh, bitchy

  • There's a Mars Moonswatch on ebay already. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/-/304410425008

The seller says "it's who you know". It's being offered with the ebay authentication guarantee service, which means the seller sends it to an authenticator who checks it and sends it to the buyer. Bidding started at 10 pm last night at £599, and it's reached £2050 with 6 days to go. I'm not convinced the sale will happen. Lots more people will list them on Saturday with a 1 or 3 day auction, the prices realised will be more sensible, and the bidders on this listing, even if they are genuine and serious, will cancel.

  • Well the seller obviously doesn’t have it in hand anyway.

  • I think he does, look at his photos. There are thousands of them in shop windows and stockrooms. He's probably got one from a friend in the trade.
