Cheers. Interestingly I finally got the support team to confirm that I owned the account because it was linked to my email address, even though I didn't create it. They confirmed I could delete the account so I did.

I'd love to know what the name for this is as it happened to me for both instagram and twitter. For the former I could trigger a password reset and claim the account back, but not for twitter.
